> The interior ministry says MRPs stop within a month, after which every new passport and renewal costs the e-passport fee. Every DGIP fee table, the online service charge, documents and the mistakes to avoid.

**Update, 17 October 2026: the MRP end date has moved.** The interior ministry told the National Assembly on Friday 16 October that **machine-readable passports will stop being issued within a month**, after which every passport office and mission will issue only e-passports, [Geo News reported](https://www.geo.tv/latest/686964-pakistan-to-roll-out-e-passports-within-a-month-ministry). That is later than the 14 October cut-off in the earlier DGIP notices described below, and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry warned of possible delays at busy offices. **Before you pay, ask your passport office or mission which type it is issuing that day.** The fees themselves have not changed: an e-passport costs **Rs 9,000** (36 pages, 5 years, normal) and an MRP **Rs 4,500** while it is still issued. Existing MRPs stay valid until their printed expiry. [Full story](/news/pakistan/machine-readable-passport-ends-15-october-e-passport-fee).

*Earlier, 16 October 2026:* **the e-passport fee is unchanged.** Since **15 October** every new passport and renewal in Pakistan is an e-passport. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has re-issued its e-passport fee schedule, [ARY News reported](https://arynews.tv/pakistan-announces-new-e-passport-fee-schedule) on 15 October, and the figures are the same as before: **Rs 9,000** for 36 pages and 5 years on normal processing, **Rs 13,500** for 10 years, and **Rs 15,000 / Rs 22,500** urgent. 72 pages cost **Rs 16,500 / Rs 24,750** normal and **Rs 27,000 / Rs 40,500** urgent. There is no fast track and no 100-page option for e-passports. The full table is below.

**Passport fee in Pakistan 2026:** a 36-page, 5-year passport costs **Rs 4,500** as a machine readable passport (MRP) and **Rs 9,000** as an e-passport on normal processing, and a 10-year e-passport **Rs 13,500**, according to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP). **MRPs ended on 14 October 2026:** from **15 October** every new passport and renewal is an e-passport, so the fee you pay now is the e-passport fee. Every figure below was re-checked against DGIP's own fee page on **1 October 2026** (last modified 9 September 2026) and none has changed since 2024. Applying online adds a **Rs 1,000** service charge inland. Work out your total with the [passport fee calculator](/tools/government/passport-fee-calculator).

## MRP ends 15 October 2026: what it means for your fee

DGIP has told passport offices to stop taking new MRP applications from **15 October 2026**; the last day an MRP application is accepted is **14 October** ([full story](/news/pakistan/machine-readable-passport-ends-15-october-e-passport-fee)). An MRP you already hold stays valid until its printed expiry date.

| 36 pages, normal | MRP (until 14 Oct) | e-passport (from 15 Oct) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 years | Rs 4,500 | Rs 9,000 | +Rs 4,500 |
| 10 years | Rs 6,700 | Rs 13,500 | +Rs 6,800 |
| 5 years, urgent | Rs 7,500 | Rs 15,000 | +Rs 7,500 |

A family of four renewing 36-page, 10-year passports pays **Rs 54,000** as e-passports against **Rs 26,800** as MRPs. If your passport has expired or has under a year left and you can get to an office before 14 October, applying now saves money; fast track is MRP-only, so it also ends with the MRP. Earlier changes this year still apply: passport offices went **cashless** on 1 July, home delivery started the same day, and **e-passport renewal moved to NADRA centres** on 7 September.

## 10-year passport fee (10 saal passport fees)

Adults can choose a 5-year or a 10-year passport; children under 15 get 5 years only. The 10-year passport costs about 50% more than the 5-year one, so over a decade it is the cheaper choice for any adult who will travel again. DGIP fees side by side (checked on dgip.gov.pk on 8 October 2026, page last modified 9 September 2026):

| Passport | 5 years, normal | 10 years, normal | 5 years, urgent | 10 years, urgent | 5 years, fast track | 10 years, fast track |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MRP, 36 pages | Rs 4,500 | Rs 6,700 | Rs 7,500 | Rs 11,200 | Rs 12,500 | Rs 16,200 |
| MRP, 72 pages | Rs 8,200 | Rs 12,400 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 20,200 | Rs 18,500 | Rs 25,200 |
| MRP, 100 pages | Rs 9,000 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 18,000 | Rs 27,000 | Rs 23,000 | Rs 32,000 |
| e-passport, 36 pages | Rs 9,000 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 15,000 | Rs 22,500 | not offered | not offered |
| e-passport, 72 pages | Rs 16,500 | Rs 24,750 | Rs 27,000 | Rs 40,500 | not offered | not offered |

From 15 October 2026, when MRPs end, the 10-year fee most adults will pay is **Rs 13,500** (36-page e-passport, normal), or **Rs 14,500** if you apply online inland with the Rs 1,000 service charge. Two 5-year e-passports over the same ten years would cost Rs 18,000.

## Passport renewal fee

There is no separate renewal fee. DGIP publishes one fee table, and a renewal costs exactly the same as a new passport of the same type, pages, validity and priority. Renewing a 36-page 10-year e-passport on normal processing therefore costs Rs 13,500, plus Rs 1,000 if you renew online from inside Pakistan or Rs 2,500 plus taxes from abroad. You may renew at any time: DGIP's ordinary passport page says there is no restriction on renewing before expiry, although the online portal only takes passports with one year or less left. Missions abroad apply the same rule; the Frankfurt consulate's fee table, for example, is headed "New/Renew/Modify".

## Passport fee 2026: machine readable passport (MRP)

In force since **7 March 2024** (DGIP):

| Pages | 5 years, normal | 5 years, urgent | 10 years, normal | 10 years, urgent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | Rs 4,500 | Rs 7,500 | Rs 6,700 | Rs 11,200 |
| 72 | Rs 8,200 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 12,400 | Rs 20,200 |
| 100 | Rs 9,000 | Rs 18,000 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 27,000 |

**Fast track** (MRP only, in force since **8 May 2024**, offered in 47 cities; available only until MRPs end on 14 October 2026):

| Pages | 5 years | 10 years |
|---|---|---|
| 36 | Rs 12,500 | Rs 16,200 |
| 72 | Rs 18,500 | Rs 25,200 |
| 100 | Rs 23,000 | Rs 32,000 |

## E-passport fee

| Pages | 5 years, normal | 5 years, urgent | 10 years, normal | 10 years, urgent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | Rs 9,000 | Rs 15,000 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 22,500 |
| 72 | Rs 16,500 | Rs 27,000 | Rs 24,750 | Rs 40,500 |

There is no 100-page e-passport, and fast track is **not** available for e-passports. Children under 15 get 5-year passports only; adults choose 5 or 10 years.

**Extra charges:** Executive Passport Offices and passport counters at NADRA centres add a NADRA service charge on top, which DGIP does not list. The home delivery charge has not been published either. Ask at the counter before you pay.

### If you apply online, add the service charge

DGIP's own e-Services portal publishes a service charge on top of the fee, and it is the number most people miss. Checked on the portal's fee page on 20 September 2026:

- **Inland application: Rs 1,000**, inclusive of taxes.
- **Overseas application: Rs 2,500**, plus applicable taxes.

So the real total for the most common passport, a 36-page 5-year normal MRP applied for online from inside Pakistan, is **Rs 5,500**, not Rs 4,500.

| Applied online, inland | Fee | Service charge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 pages, 5 years, normal | Rs 4,500 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 5,500** |
| 36 pages, 5 years, urgent | Rs 7,500 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 8,500** |
| 36 pages, 10 years, normal | Rs 6,700 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 7,700** |
| 36 pages, 10 years, urgent | Rs 11,200 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 12,200** |
| 72 pages, 5 years, normal | Rs 8,200 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 9,200** |
| 72 pages, 10 years, normal | Rs 12,400 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 13,400** |
| 100 pages, 5 years, normal | Rs 9,000 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 10,000** |
| 100 pages, 10 years, normal | Rs 13,500 | Rs 1,000 | **Rs 14,500** |

Overseas applicants pay Rs 2,500 plus taxes instead of Rs 1,000, so a 36-page 5-year normal comes to Rs 7,000 before tax on the service charge. The service charge does not apply when you walk into a passport office and pay by QR code; that is the plain fee in the tables above.

**A "premium service" fee structure** was approved in June 2026, but no amounts had been published by 18 September 2026. If you see a "new passport fee" table online, check it against dgip.gov.pk first.

## How long it takes

| Service | Official time |
|---|---|
| Fast track | 2 working days |
| Urgent | 5 working days |
| Normal | 21 working days |

Courier time to remote areas and to missions abroad is extra. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced in April 2026 that normal delivery would drop to 14 days, but DGIP's own pages still say 21 working days. Plan on 21.

## How to apply at a passport office

You can apply at **any** regional passport office, whatever address is on your CNIC. Offices deal with the public Monday to Thursday from 9am (tokens until 2pm) and Friday from 9am to 12:30pm. RPO G-10/4 Islamabad, RPO Garden Town Lahore and RPO Awami Markaz Karachi work around the clock.

1. **Customer service counter.** Show your original CNIC or NICOP (a child's CRC or B-Form for under-18s).
2. **Photo and token.** Your picture is taken and you get a token with a QR code. **Check the name, CNIC number, application type and priority on the token immediately.** An error found later means going through every stage again.
3. **Fingerprints.** Four fingers are scanned.
4. **Data entry.** Give a mobile number and email for status alerts (SMS from 9988). Read the printed form carefully before you sign; once data is saved, any change means a new token and starting again.
5. **Checks and interview.** Your case is checked against the exit control and black lists, then the Assistant Director approves it.
6. **Pay by QR.** Since **1 July 2026** offices take no cash. Scan the QR code with EasyPaisa, JazzCash or your banking app. NBP also collects passport fees through Raast QR.
7. **Collect** on the date given, with your original token. Only you or a blood relative can collect. Choose home delivery at the counter if you prefer.

Leave phones, cameras and weapons at home; they are not allowed inside.

## Renewing an e-passport at NADRA

From **7 September 2026**, e-passport **renewal and reprint** are available at NADRA centres, and you can book a slot in the **Pak ID** app. New passports, data changes and MRPs are still handled at passport offices. NADRA's service charge for this was not listed by DGIP when we checked.

## Renewing online

DGIP's e-Services portal (onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk) handles **renewals** for Pakistanis at home and abroad if:

- your details match your old passport and NADRA record;
- you still have the old passport; and
- it has expired or has **one year or less** left.

Upload a colour photo on a white background (350x467 pixels, JPEG, under 3MB), pay by **credit or debit card**, and track progress by email. Remember the portal's service charge, Rs 1,000 inland and Rs 2,500 overseas, set out in the fee section above. Overseas Pakistanis can also use the portal for a newborn's first passport (up to age 2), damaged or full passports, a first or second lost passport, and marital status or profession changes. If your fingerprint form is rejected three times, you must visit an office or mission.

## Fee at Pakistani embassies

Missions charge in local currency, by card, and set their own tables. These are the MRP fees on two missions' own pages, checked on 8 October 2026 (neither lists an e-passport fee yet):

**Embassy of Pakistan, Washington (USA)**

| MRP | Normal | Urgent |
|---|---|---|
| 5 years | $70 | $150 |
| 10 years | $98 | $225 |

A first lost passport costs double ($140 normal for 5 years) and a second loss four times. Fees are non-refundable and taken only by debit or credit card.

**Consulate General of Pakistan, Frankfurt (Germany)**

| MRP | 5 years, normal | 5 years, urgent | 10 years, normal | 10 years, urgent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 pages | EUR 36 | EUR 70 | EUR 54 | EUR 105 |
| 72 pages | EUR 70 | EUR 140 | EUR 105 | EUR 210 |

Paying by debit card at the consulate adds EUR 1 in bank charges.

Other missions publish their own figures: the Pakistan High Commission in London lists a 36-page, 5-year MRP at **£30** (normal) and **£50** (urgent), and the Consulate in Dubai lists **AED 110** and **AED 180**. The UAE e-passport launch announced for July 2026 was postponed, and MRP services continue there. You can also apply online through DGIP's portal from abroad, where the service charge is Rs 2,500 plus taxes. Check your own mission's website before you go.

## Documents you need

**Adults:**

- Original CNIC or NICOP, plus a copy
- Old passport and a copy, if you have one
- NOC from your department, if you are a government or semi-government employee
- Foreign passport and a copy, for dual nationals

**Children under 18:**

- Age 10 and over: updated CRC (with fingerprints and photo) or a Juvenile Card
- Under 10: CRC/B-Form or FRC
- Original CNICs or passports of **both parents**, plus copies
- A parent or court-appointed guardian must attend. If one parent applies, the other must be present or give consent on attested stamp paper. Bring custody papers or a guardianship certificate where relevant, or a death certificate if a parent has died.
- A data form attested by a gazetted officer, with the officer's stamp, CNIC number and phone number

Every child gets their own passport; children cannot be added to a parent's.

**Lost passport:** a police report showing the lost passport's number. If you do not know the number, apply in writing at a passport office with copies of your CNIC.

**Name or date of birth change:** update your CNIC at NADRA **first**, then apply for the passport with the new CNIC.

## Lost passport fee

| | 36 pages, 5 years (normal / urgent / fast track) |
|---|---|
| First loss (double fee) | Rs 9,000 / Rs 15,000 / Rs 25,000 |
| Second loss (four times) | Rs 18,000 / Rs 30,000 / Rs 50,000 |

A third loss is referred to DGIP headquarters in Islamabad for approval. DGIP's fee chart has the other page counts and 10-year rates.

## Mistakes that cost time or money

- **Not checking the token.** A wrong CNIC number or passport type on the token means starting again.
- **Changing your name at the passport office.** It has to be changed at NADRA first.
- **An unattested child's form, or a missing parent.** The case is held until both are sorted.
- **Government employees without an NOC.**
- **Renewing online with more than a year left**, or with details that differ from NADRA's record.
- **Paying an agent.** DGIP warns against agents. Fees go by QR code at the office or by card online, and they are **non-refundable**.
- **Trusting old fee tables.** Some sites still list pre-2024 rates or unpublished "premium" fees.

## Frequently asked questions

**Will the passport fee go up after 14 October 2026?**

In effect, yes. MRPs end on 14 October 2026, and from 15 October every new passport and renewal is an e-passport, which costs Rs 9,000 for 36 pages and 5 years against Rs 4,500 for an MRP.

**Is there an extra charge for applying for a passport online?**

Yes. DGIP's e-Services portal adds a service charge of Rs 1,000 inclusive of taxes for inland applications and Rs 2,500 plus applicable taxes for overseas applications. A 36-page 5-year normal MRP therefore totals Rs 5,500 online inland, against Rs 4,500 at a passport office counter.

**What is the passport fee in Pakistan in 2026?**

For a normal 36-page passport: Rs 4,500 (5 years) or Rs 6,700 (10 years) as an MRP, which can be applied for only until 14 October 2026. From 15 October all new passports are e-passports: Rs 9,000 (5 years) or Rs 13,500 (10 years) on normal processing. These are DGIP's published rates, unchanged since 2024 (checked 1 October 2026).

**How many days does a passport take in Pakistan?**

Officially 21 working days for normal, 5 working days for urgent and 2 working days for fast track (MRP only, 47 cities), per DGIP. The government announced a 14-day normal service in April 2026, but DGIP's pages still say 21 working days.

**Can I pay the passport fee in cash?**

No. Since 1 July 2026 passport offices are cashless: you scan a QR code at the office and pay through EasyPaisa, JazzCash, a banking app or NBP's Raast QR. Online renewals are paid by credit or debit card.

**Can I renew my passport at a NADRA centre?**

E-passport renewal and reprint have been available at NADRA centres since 7 September 2026, with slots bookable in the Pak ID app. New passports, data changes and MRPs are still handled at passport offices.

**What is the fee for a lost passport?**

Double the normal fee for a first loss and four times for a second, per DGIP. A 36-page, 5-year normal MRP costs Rs 9,000 after a first loss. A third loss needs approval from DGIP headquarters.

**What is the 10-year passport fee in Pakistan?**

A 36-page 10-year passport costs Rs 6,700 as an MRP (until 14 October 2026) and Rs 13,500 as an e-passport on normal processing, or Rs 11,200 and Rs 22,500 urgent, according to DGIP.

**Is the passport renewal fee different from a new passport?**

No. DGIP charges the same fee for a renewal as for a new passport of the same type, pages, validity and priority. Online renewal adds a Rs 1,000 service charge inland.
