# Chrome AI autofill can now read your Gmail to fill forms: US only for now, opt-in

Google is giving **Chrome's autofill** access to your **Gmail**. A new AI-powered mode, built on Gemini, can now suggest entries for web forms using details it finds in your inbox: **flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, parcel tracking numbers, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers and card numbers**, TechCrunch reported on Wednesday.

## How Chrome's Gmail autofill works

Today, Chrome's autofill only offers what you have saved in the browser, such as your name, address and cards. The new mode goes further: when a form asks for, say, a booking reference, Chrome can look for it in your emails and offer it, so you do not have to dig through your inbox and copy it across.

It is part of Google's **Personal Intelligence** feature, which lets you connect Google apps such as Gmail to the Gemini assistant.

- **Opt-in:** you choose whether to switch on enhanced autofill in Chrome's settings, and Google says it uses Gmail "with your permission".
- **Security:** Google says sensitive data is encrypted. It has not said more about how long data is kept.
- **Where:** rolling out to users in the **United States** first, on desktop and in the Gemini in Chrome apps for iOS and Android.

## Is it available in Pakistan?

Not yet. Google has given no date for other countries.

## Should you turn it on when it arrives?

It will save time on airline check-ins, courier tracking and online orders. But it also means an AI model reads your inbox whenever you fill a form. Before you switch it on, think about what sits in your Gmail: bank alerts, CNIC copies sent to employers, OTP emails. Three sensible habits:

1. Keep **two-step verification** on your Google account, so a stolen password alone cannot unlock both your mail and your autofill.
2. Check what Chrome has saved under **Settings, Autofill and passwords**, and delete old cards.
3. Never let autofill complete a payment page you reached from a link in an SMS or WhatsApp message.
