> Growth picked up from a three-year low of 4.3% as exports and factory output carried the economy, while property investment fell another 20.6%.

**China GDP grew 4.5% year on year in the July to September quarter of 2026**, official data released on Monday showed, beating the 4.4% median forecast in a Reuters poll and picking up from 4.3% in April to June, which had been the slowest pace in more than three years. The figures were reported by [Reuters, via Business Recorder](https://www.brecorder.com/news/40444889/chinas-economic-growth-picks-up-in-third-quarter-beating-exp).

On a quarter-on-quarter basis the economy grew 1.2%, against an expected 1.1% and 0.9% in the second quarter. Growth for the first nine months stands at 4.6%, inside the government's 2026 target range of 4.5% to 5.0%.

## Exports did the heavy lifting

Exports surged in September and the trade surplus widened more than expected, putting China on course to beat last year's record surplus of $1.2 trillion. Industrial output grew at its quickest pace in six months. Retail sales growth of 1.1% was the fastest since March but remains weak by China's own standards, which is why investors watch it closely.

Investment is still the soft spot. Fixed-asset investment fell 7.2% in the first nine months, infrastructure investment shrank 4.2%, and property investment dropped 20.6%. Beijing has released 550 billion yuan (about $82 billion) of unused government debt quotas to local governments and tapped an 800 billion yuan policy financing tool to revive infrastructure spending.

## Why it matters in Pakistan

China is Pakistan's biggest source of imports and the main financier of CPEC, so its growth feeds through to prices here in two ways. A stronger Chinese factory sector supports demand for oil and metals, which affects what Pakistan pays for imports. And a wider Chinese export push tends to mean cheaper Chinese goods, from solar panels to machinery and fabric, competing with local makers. Pakistani spinners and weavers are already asking for curbs on cheap imported man-made yarn and fabric.

China's financial health also matters for the debt Pakistan owes to Chinese lenders and for the [Rs 498 billion owed to CPEC power plants](/news/economy/cpec-power-plants-owed-rs-498-billion-by-cppa-g-port-qasim-and-sahiwal-rs-159).

Markets in Asia took the data well: bitcoin, Korea's Kospi and Nasdaq futures rose after the release, CoinDesk reported. ## What comes next

Beijing's annual growth target needs roughly 4.5% in the final quarter to stay on track. The next monthly data on retail sales, industrial output and investment is due in mid-November.
