> Lending grew 42% and deposits passed Rs 3.9 trillion, but a 52% tax rate kept profit growth to single digits.

Meezan Bank earned Rs 73.94 billion after tax in the first nine months of 2026, 7% more than the Rs 69.33 billion of January to September 2025, and declared a third interim dividend of Rs 8 a share. The figures come from the bank's results as summarised by brokerage Arif Habib Limited and reported by ProPakistani on Thursday.

## Meezan Bank 9M 2026 results at a glance

Profit before tax rose a slower 3% to Rs 157.83 billion, because the tax bill took a large share: the effective tax rate in the third quarter was about 52%, down from 55% in the second.

## The third quarter

July to September alone produced Rs 25.85 billion after tax, up 14% on the same quarter last year, or Rs 14.36 a share against Rs 12.62. Two things helped. Operating costs of about Rs 28 billion were roughly flat against a year earlier, which brought the cost-to-income ratio down to about 35% from 38%. And the bank wrote back Rs 2.5 billion of provisions, meaning loans it had set money aside for turned out better than feared.

## Where the money came from

Net financing income, the Islamic-banking equivalent of interest income, was Rs 197.72 billion for nine months, up 5%. Total income reached Rs 233.81 billion, up 7%. Fees earned Rs 8.2 billion (up 6%), while foreign exchange income fell 12% to Rs 2.8 billion.

The balance sheet grew much faster than profit. Deposits passed Rs 3.9 trillion, and financing to customers jumped 42% to Rs 1.61 trillion. Borrowings rose 67% to Rs 835 billion. With the State Bank's policy rate at 11.5% (see the [policy rate page](/data/sbp-policy-rate)), margins on that larger book are thinner than in 2024, which is why profit rose less than the balance sheet.

## What it means for shareholders and savers

At Rs 23.50 a share paid for nine months, the Arif Habib note puts the expected dividend yield for 2026 at about 5.8%, with the stock trading at 3.1 times book value. The record date and payment date for the Rs 8 dividend will be in the bank's notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange; dividends are taxed at source at 15% for filers and double that for non-filers, so check your status before the book closure (our [income tax calculator](/tools/tax/income-tax-calculator) covers the slabs).

For depositors, the results matter less than the profit rate Meezan pays on savings accounts, which follows the policy rate. You can compare those returns with government schemes on the [National Savings calculator](/tools/finance/national-savings-calculator), and follow the market on the [KSE-100 page](/data/kse-100).
