> Left-hand opener, right-arm off-spinner, 24, from Karachi. Three ODI hundreds, 67 T20I caps, and an ankle fracture that cost him most of 2025.

Saim Ayub is a left-handed opening batter and right-arm off-spinner from Karachi, and one of the most searched names in Pakistani cricket. This page collects what he has actually done, format by format, and is updated as he plays.

## The basics

| | |
| --- | --- |
| Full name | Saim Ayub |
| Born | 24 May 2002, Karachi, Sindh |
| Age | 24 |
| Batting | Left-hand |
| Bowling | Right-arm off break |
| Nickname | Super Saim |
| Height | 1.73m (5ft 8in) |
| Domestic | Karachi Whites, Sindh, Quetta Gladiators (2021), Peshawar Zalmi (2023 to 2025) |

## Career record

| Format | Debut | Matches | Runs | Average | Best | 100s | 50s | Wickets |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Test | 3 Jan 2024 v Australia | 9 | 364 | 22.75 | 77 | 0 | 3 | 4 |
| ODI | 4 Nov 2024 v Australia | 17 | 751 | 46.93 | 113* | 3 | 3 | 9 |
| T20I | 24 Mar 2023 v Afghanistan | 67 | 1,298 | 21.27 | 98* | 0 | 6 | 29 |

The shape of that table is the whole story about him. In ODIs he averages nearly 47 with three hundreds in 17 innings, which is top-order batting of a very high order. In T20Is he has 67 caps, 29 wickets and a batting average of 21, which is a different job: powerplay hitter and sixth bowler.

## The records worth knowing

- His maiden ODI hundred, against Zimbabwe in November 2024, came off 53 balls. That is the second-fastest ODI century by a Pakistan batter.
- He became the youngest player to make an ODI hundred against South Africa while chasing, a record previously held by Brian Lara.
- In October 2025 he went to No. 1 in the ICC men's T20I all-rounder rankings.
- At the 2025 Asia Cup he took six wickets at an economy rate of 5.6 while having a poor tournament with the bat.

## The no-look shot

The shot people know him for is the no-look flick: he plays through the leg side with his head already turned away from the ball. He first played it in domestic cricket in 2022, and it is now the clip that follows him around every time he scores.

## The injury that cost him a year

In January 2025 he fractured his right ankle fielding during the second Test in Cape Town. It ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025 and broke the momentum of the best twelve months of his career. Anyone comparing his numbers before and after that ankle is looking at two different players and needs to account for the gap.

## Where he is now

- Last Test: 9 September 2026 against England.
- Last ODI: 14 November 2025 against Sri Lanka.
- Last T20I: 24 February 2026 against England.

He played the England Test series that finished on 12 September, in which Pakistan lost the third Test at Birmingham by eight wickets. Pakistan's next home cricket is Sri Lanka's tour, with the first T20I in Rawalpindi on 9 October, followed by the ODI tri-series with Sri Lanka and England from 18 October.

Pakistan's men also play their Asian Games quarter-final in Japan on 28 September, 5am Pakistan time. We track that on our [Asian Games page](/news/sports/asian-games-2026-schedule-pakistan-time).

## What to watch next

Three things decide where his career goes from here.

1. **Whether the ODI number holds.** An average of 46.93 across 17 matches is a small sample. The Sri Lanka tri-series in October is the first long run of 50-over cricket he has had since the ankle.
2. **Whether he keeps the ball.** The T20I all-rounder ranking came from bowling four tight overs, not from batting. If Pakistan stop bowling him, the case for his T20I place gets harder.
3. **The Test top order.** 364 runs at 22.75 in nine Tests, with three fifties and no hundred, is an unfinished record. The next home Test season is where that is settled.

## Leagues and money

Franchise contracts outside Pakistan, in the CPL and the Bangladesh Premier League, are paid in US dollars, so what a deal is worth in rupees moves with the exchange rate. The dollar is at about Rs 277.21 today. Our [dollar rate page](/data/usd-pkr) tracks it daily.
