> Bitcoin fell about 3.1 percent on Wednesday to roughly $83,780, taking Rs 7.4 lakh off the rupee value of one coin. Traders are watching $82,000.

Bitcoin fell through **$84,000** on Wednesday, wiping out the calm this story described in the morning. About **$280 million of long positions were liquidated in a four-hour stretch**, the sharpest forced selling of the week, after the coin failed for a second time to clear $87,000.

Our tracker recorded bitcoin at **$83,780** for Wednesday, down from $86,440 on Tuesday: a fall of about **3.1 percent in a day**. Ether went with it, to about **$2,651** from $2,768.

## What it costs a Pakistani holder

At an interbank rate of Rs 277.20 to the dollar:

- One bitcoin: about **Rs 2.32 crore** (Rs 23,223,800), down roughly **Rs 7.4 lakh** on Tuesday
- One ether: about **Rs 734,780**
- $100 of bitcoin: **Rs 27,720**

The rupee is doing none of the damage here. It closed a paisa firmer at 277.20, so the whole of the move is the coin. Our [dollar rate page](/data/usd-pkr) carries the dated interbank run and the [currency converter](/tools/finance/currency-converter) will do any amount.

## Why it broke

Two things, and neither is Pakistan-specific.

The first is positioning. Traders had built leveraged long positions through Monday's record ETF inflow day, when US spot bitcoin funds took in $998.95 million. When the price would not hold above $87,000, those positions were closed out automatically, and each forced sale pushed the price a little further down. That is what a liquidation cascade is: not new sellers arriving, but existing buyers being removed.

The second is demand underneath. CryptoQuant puts cumulative 30-day spot demand at **negative 180,000 bitcoin**, meaning more coin is being sold into the market than bought outright. ETF flows have been carrying the price while spot buyers step back, and the aggregate cost basis of the US spot ETFs sits just below $86,000, which is now above the market.

## The level people are watching

Trader Rekt Capital points at **$82,000** as the line that matters, arguing bitcoin needs to hold or successfully retest that area on any further dip for the uptrend to stay intact. Below it there is no obvious support until the summer range.

## What this means if you hold crypto here

Three practical points, unchanged by the drop.

**Custody.** Anything sitting on an exchange is a claim on that exchange, not an asset in your name. That is a separate risk from price, and it is the one that has wiped people out historically.

**The exit price.** Most Pakistani holders realise gains through the open market rather than the interbank rate, so the rupee figure you actually receive will differ from the arithmetic above. Price the exit, not the screen.

**The record.** Keep dated records of what you bought, at what price, and when you sold. A gain you cannot evidence is a problem you have made for yourself. Our [capital gains tax calculator](/tools/tax/capital-gains-tax-calculator) is built for listed securities and property rather than crypto, but the discipline of recording cost and date is identical.

None of this is advice to buy or sell. A 3 percent day in either direction is ordinary for this asset, and leverage is what turns an ordinary day into a loss you cannot recover from.
