> China is expected to roll over $4 billion and Kuwait $300 million, on top of Saudi Arabia's $3 billion deposit, as Pakistan faces about $21 billion in foreign debt payments this year.

Pakistan has received assurances from China and Kuwait that they will roll over loans worth **$4.3 billion**, Ministry of Finance sources told ProPakistani on Thursday, 5 November 2026. With Saudi Arabia's $3 billion deposit, rolled over again earlier this week, the total that friendly countries are expected to keep parked in Pakistan comes to **$7.3 billion**.

## The numbers

| Lender | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|
| China | $4 billion | Assured, rollover expected in March 2027 |
| Kuwait | $300 million | Assured |
| Saudi Arabia | $3 billion | Rolled over, Finance Minister Aurangzeb said this week |
| **Total** | **$7.3 billion** | |

According to the same sources, each rollover is expected to run for about one year. Pakistan also expects the IMF to release about **$1.21 billion** in December, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said.

## Why it matters

Pakistan has to repay or refinance roughly **$21 billion** of foreign debt in the current fiscal year (July 2026 to June 2027). The $7.3 billion in rollovers is counted inside that figure: if these deposits and loans were withdrawn instead of rolled over, the State Bank would have to pay them out of its reserves, which would push the rupee down.

Rollovers do not bring in new money. They stop money from leaving. That is why the rupee has stayed close to Rs 276.7 to the dollar on the interbank market in recent days (see the live [dollar rate in Pakistan today](/data/usd-pkr)), and why every rollover announcement is watched closely by importers and anyone with a dollar payment to make.

## What it means for you

- **Rupee:** a steady flow of rollovers and the IMF tranche reduce the risk of a sudden fall in the rupee in the next few months. Use our [currency converter](/tools/finance/currency-converter) for today's rates.
- **Fees and imports:** a stable rupee keeps the rupee cost of foreign fees, imported phones and fuel steadier.
- **Not a cure:** the loans still have to be repaid or rolled over again next year, and the amount Pakistan owes does not fall.

The Saudi rollover was announced earlier this week; read our story on [Saudi Arabia's $3 billion deposit](/news/economy/saudi-arabia-rolls-over-dollar3-billion-deposit-for-pakistan-again-aurangzeb).
