> The tax body's four-month gap is about Rs 126.5 billion, a month after it beat its first-quarter target. The last day of the month usually brings in the most.

**The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) went into Saturday 31 October needing another Rs 157 billion to hit its October tax target,** after provisionally collecting **Rs 975 billion** in the first 30 days of the month against a target of **Rs 1,132 billion**, [ProPakistani reported](https://propakistani.pk/2026/10/31/fbr-faces-huge-rs-157-billion-tax-collection-shortfall-for-october-2026/), citing provisional figures.

## The numbers

| | Target | Collected (provisional) | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 2026 (to 30 Oct) | Rs 1,132 billion | Rs 975 billion | Rs 157 billion |
| July to October 2026 | Rs 4,185 billion | about Rs 4,058.5 billion | about Rs 126.5 billion |

To close October's gap, the FBR would need to collect about 14% of the month's target on its final day. That is not impossible: a large share of every month's tax arrives on the last working day, when companies deposit withholding and sales tax, and the final October figure will only be known once Saturday's receipts are counted and reconciled.

## Why it matters

The FBR beat its target for the first quarter (July to September), after missing August's monthly goal but staying ahead over two months. A miss in October would put the year's running total behind again at the start of the second quarter, which is when the IMF looks closely at revenue in its reviews. When collection falls short, the usual response in Pakistan is a squeeze on those already in the net: more notices, tighter withholding and, in the budget, higher rates on salaries and bank transactions.

The shortfall comes as the FBR presses ahead with enforcement in individual sectors, including an order for textile spinning mills to install video cameras by 15 November ([our story](/news/economy/fbr-orders-textile-spinning-mills-to-install-video-cameras-by-15-november)).

## What it means for you

Nothing changes for an ordinary taxpayer this week. But if you are a salaried person, freelancer or shopkeeper, it is a good moment to check that your own deductions are right, since every rupee of withholding counts towards these totals:

- Salaried: see what is being deducted with our [income tax calculator](/tools/tax/income-tax-calculator) or the [salary breakdown calculator](/tools/finance/salary-breakdown-calculator).
- Freelancers: check the rate on foreign earnings with the [freelancer tax calculator](/tools/tax/freelancer-tax-calculator).
- Cash withdrawals: non-filers pay extra; the [cash withdrawal tax calculator](/tools/tax/cash-withdrawal-tax-calculator) shows how much.

We will update this story when the FBR releases its final October figure.
