# LNG price in Pakistan cut 20%: RLNG now $15.20 on SNGPL, $14.22 on SSGC

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has cut the price of imported re-gasified LNG (RLNG) for September by about **20%**. The notification, dated **24 September 2026**, applies with effect from **1 September**, so the whole month is billed at the lower rate.

## The new LNG price in Pakistan

These are the weighted average sale prices before GST, in US dollars per MMBtu, as set out in OGRA's annexures:

At today's interbank dollar of about Rs 277.17 (see the [dollar rate page](/data/usd-pkr)), the SNGPL distribution price works out to roughly **Rs 4,212 per MMBtu**, about **Rs 1,062 less** than in August. On the SSGC network it is about **Rs 3,942**, down about **Rs 1,084**.

## Why the price fell

OGRA's working sheets show three things moved:

- **The cargo price itself fell.** The delivered (DES) price of LNG used in the formula dropped from $12.12 in August to **$10.06** per MMBtu. LNG is priced off Brent, and the three-month Brent average in the formula eased from $90.66 to $85.44.
- **Two cargoes instead of one.** PSO brought in two cargoes (about 6.3 million MMBtu) against one in August, so fixed charges were spread over twice the gas.
- **Terminal charges per unit halved**, from $2.28 to **$1.09** per MMBtu, for the same reason.

These are provisional prices. OGRA says the final figures will be adjusted once actual retainage and costs are known, so a small revision later is normal.

## Who pays this price

RLNG is not the price of ordinary piped gas for most homes, which is set separately under OGRA's consumer gas tariffs. The RLNG price feeds into:

- **Industry and captive power** on RLNG connections, whose monthly gas bills fall with it.
- **CNG stations** supplied with RLNG in Punjab and Islamabad, whose costs drop.
- **Power plants** running on RLNG, which feeds into fuel cost adjustments on electricity bills later.

## The context

The cut comes after a run of very expensive spot cargoes over the summer, when shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted and Pakistan paid a record spot price. September's lower number reflects both the easing oil price and the larger volume delivered.

## What to watch

- **October's RLNG price** will follow in about four weeks, using the same Brent-linked formula.
- **CNG pump prices** in Punjab are set by station owners, so whether the cut reaches motorists depends on them.
- **Electricity bills:** fuel cost adjustments are decided by NEPRA two months after the fact, so any effect shows up later.
