Punjab has fixed the wheat support price for the coming season at **Rs 4,500 per maund** and set a cultivation target of **16.5 million acres**, Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani announced on Wednesday, ProPakistani reports.

Kirmani spoke while chairing a review meeting at the Commissioner's Office. A maund is 40 kilograms, so the support price works out to Rs 112.5 per kilogram of wheat.

## Seed price and warnings

The minister ordered field officers to make sure approved 50 kilogram bags of wheat seed are sold at the fixed price of **Rs 7,000**, which is Rs 140 per kilogram. He directed strict action against hoarding, profiteering, black marketing and theft of canal water. The Punjab Seed Corporation has given a subsidy of Rs 450 million on certified wheat seed.

## Money for farmers

According to the minister, the province has set aside Rs 150 billion under the Kissan Card programme to help farmers buy inputs. He said Rs 425 billion in interest-free loans had been disbursed over the past two and a half years, and that 45,000 tractors have been distributed at subsidised rates under the Green Tractor Scheme.
