> The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority began surprise inspections in Peshawar on the governor's orders, starting with slaughterhouses, butchers and milk shops.

The **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority** has launched a province-wide crackdown on businesses selling substandard meat, milk, fruit, vegetables and other food, acting on the orders of KP Governor **Faisal Karim Kundi**, [ProPakistani reported](https://propakistani.pk/2026/10/24/kp-launches-province-wide-crackdown-on-substandard-food/) on Saturday 24 October 2026.

**Key facts**

- Who: KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, on Governor Faisal Karim Kundi's orders
- Where first: Charsadda Road, Dalazak Road, Faqirabad and Shah Alam in Peshawar
- Targets: meat, milk, fruit, vegetables and other food, from preparation to sale
- First action: a warning notice to one milk shop; fines not yet announced

## Where inspections started

Director General **Kashif Iqbal Jillani** led surprise inspections in **Peshawar** of slaughterhouses, butcher shops, milk shops and other food outlets on **Charsadda Road, Dalazak Road and in Faqirabad**. He also visited a slaughterhouse in **Shah Alam** on Charsadda Road and told staff to improve cleanliness.

One milk shop was given a **warning notice** for hygiene violations. The authority has not yet released figures for fines or seizures.

Director Operations Muhammad Yousaf and Deputy Director (Peshawar Division) Zeeshan Mehsud were part of the inspection team.

## What the campaign covers

The crackdown targets the whole chain: how food is **prepared, stored, transported and sold**. Food safety teams across the province have been told to step up inspections and take legal action against violators, and the DG said action would be taken without discrimination.

## How to protect your family

- **Milk:** buy from shops that keep milk chilled and covered. Milk that curdles fast when boiled or smells sour may be watered down or stale.
- **Meat:** fresh mutton and beef are firm and red, not grey or slimy. Ask where the animal was slaughtered; meat from an unregistered slaughterhouse has skipped inspection.
- **Fruit and vegetables:** wash everything in clean water, and avoid produce sold from carts parked in open drains.
- **Report it:** note the shop name and address, take a photo, and report it to the KP Food Authority.

Prices matter too: the latest weekly SPI showed chicken up 12% in a week (see our [SPI inflation story](/news/economy/spi-inflation-rises-to-1185percent-lpg-up-22percent-in-a-week-chicken-12percent)). Find hospitals near you in our [Peshawar hospitals directory](/businesses/hospitals/peshawar).
