Punjab's drug regulator has ordered two medicine batches off the shelves after its laboratories found them **substandard**. The Directorate of Drug Control Punjab issued **Drug Safety Alert No. 132/2026** on 16 September, ARY News reported.

If you or a family member bought either product recently, check the batch number on the pack before the next dose.

## What the order says

## How to check your medicine

1. **Find the batch number.** It is printed on the outer box and the strip or ampoule, usually marked "Batch", "B. No." or "Lot", next to the expiry date.
2. **Match it exactly.** Only batch **176** of Mecodax and batch **BCT-005** of the cetirizine tablet are covered.
3. **If it matches, stop using it** and take it back to the pharmacy that sold it. Keep the receipt if you have one.
4. **Do not stop a prescribed treatment on your own.** Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a replacement from a different batch or brand. Cetirizine is widely sold under other names, and your doctor can advise on B12 alternatives.
5. **Report any side effects.** If you had a reaction after using either product, report it through the Medicine Surveillance System mentioned in the alert, or tell your doctor, who can report it for you.

## Why substandard matters

A substandard medicine is a registered product that fails its quality tests. It may contain too little of the active ingredient, dissolve poorly or, for an injection, fail sterility or clarity standards. The result can be a treatment that does not work, or one that causes harm.
