**Islam Makhachev's next welterweight title defence could be against Brazil's Carlos Prates at UFC 336 in Toronto on 30 January 2027**, according to reporter Alvaro Colmenero, [Sherdog reported](https://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Islam-Makhachev-vs-Carlos-Prates-reportedly-targeted-for-UFC-336-203199) on Wednesday. Colmenero wrote on X that if negotiations continue, "we'll see the Brazilian fighting against Islam Makhachev next January 30." **The UFC has not confirmed the fight.**
