> Main roads to be washed daily, fines for dumping in markets and littering after sweeps, and self-run waste management planned for Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Dera Ghazi Khan.

**Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given officials 15 days to deliver a "100% improvement" in cleanliness across the province under the Suthra Punjab programme**, [ProPakistani reported](https://propakistani.pk/2026/11/03/cm-punjab-sets-15-day-deadline-for-suthra-punjab/) on Tuesday 3 November, after she chaired a special review meeting. A follow-up meeting is due in one week.

## What was decided

- **Waste companies may go.** The meeting discussed ending contracts with solid waste management firms whose work was judged unsatisfactory, and decided to move to self-operated waste management in **Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Dera Ghazi Khan**. The chief minister asked for a final account of the money saved by running the service directly.
- **Main roads washed daily.** Concerned about dust on roads, she ordered that main roads be washed every day.
- **Fines for dumping and littering.** Anyone who dumps waste in markets, including fruit, vegetable and grain markets, is to be penalised, and so is anyone who litters a street after the sanitation team has cleaned it.
- **Vacant plots.** Fining owners of empty plots where garbage piles up was considered, but no final decision was announced.
- **Villages every other day.** Teams are to clean villages on alternate days.
- **Salaries on time.** Sanitation workers' pay must be released on time in every city.
- **Machinery and monitoring.** Deputy commissioners must send the list of machinery they need and physically check what they already have. DCs and assistant commissioners will meet Field Monitoring Officers every week, and the officers will be judged on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Deputy commissioners of Multan, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Hafizabad and Muzaffargarh presented progress reports, along with officials from other districts.

## What it means for you

If you live in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala or Dera Ghazi Khan, the people who collect your rubbish may change in the coming weeks as the districts take the work back from private firms. The schedule of the fines has not been published yet, so there is no amount to quote; we will add it when the notification comes.

You already pay for the service: since July, homes and shops in Punjab are charged a Suthra Punjab cleaning fee of Rs 300 to Rs 5,000 a year on the property tax bill. Our explainer on [the Suthra Punjab fee](/news/property/suthra-punjab-cleaning-fee-rs-300-to-rs-5000-a-year-on-your-property-tax-bill) shows who pays how much, and the [property tax calculator](/tools/property/property-tax-calculator) works out the main bill.

## What to watch

The review meeting in a week will show which districts met the targets, and whether the vacant-plot fine is approved. Complaints about missed collection can be made on the Punjab government's helplines and the district administration's social media pages.
