> Lawmakers must file statements as of 30 June 2026, including spouses and dependent children; defaulters' names will be published on 1 January.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday, 6 November, directed all members of parliament and the provincial assemblies to submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities. ARY News reported the directive, which sets a deadline of **31 December** for the financial year 2025-26.

## What must be declared

Lawmakers must list all possessions they held as of **30 June 2026**. The ECP clarified that they are legally bound to declare the assets of their **spouses and dependent children** as well.

## The timeline

- **31 December 2026:** deadline to submit the statements.
- **1 January 2027:** the ECP will publish the names of lawmakers who have not submitted.
- **15 January 2027:** a final grace period ends.
- **After 15 January:** non-compliant members of the Senate, the National Assembly or any of the four provincial assemblies face immediate suspension, and cannot take part in assembly proceedings until they comply.

## False declarations

The ECP also warned that strict legal action will be taken under the corrupt practices laws if asset details are found to be false.

## Why it matters to voters

Asset statements are one of the few public records that let voters compare what a lawmaker owns with what they earn. The ECP report does not say where the statements are published, and we have not seen a notice on its website, so check the ECP's official site for the gazette notification of the lists. In previous years the commission has put out the lists of defaulters after the deadline; this notice gives the dates for this cycle.
