Hijikata, an Australian, beat Djokovic for the first time in three meetings, in two hours and 13 minutes, closing it with his 29th forehand winner. He saved all three break points he faced in the final set and became the lowest-ranked player to beat Djokovic this year. "I should've won this match. I played well in the first set and then completely lost control," Djokovic said, the ATP reported. He needed a semi-final in Paris to stay in the race for Turin.

## The race to Turin

Two places at the ATP Finals are still open. Fils qualified on Wednesday, joining Alcaraz. **Fritz (11th in the race) must beat both Fils and Alcaraz** to reach the semi-finals and keep his hopes alive; **Tommy Paul (13th)** booked a quarter-final place and is also still in contention.
