**Daniil Medvedev beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday to reach the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals**, without facing a single break point in 1 hour 24 minutes, [ARY News reported](https://arynews.tv/medvedev-sees-off-tsitsipas-to-reach-shanghai-masters-quarters) from AFP.

## How it went

The fifth seed and 2019 Shanghai champion broke Tsitsipas to lead 6-5 in the second set and served it out. It was the 16th meeting between the two and Medvedev's 11th win.

"I felt like I was playing very well today," Medvedev said, adding that he put a lot of pressure on Tsitsipas in the first set and that the second was "very tight."

He plays either **Tommy Paul** or **Zizou Bergs** next. Bergs is the Belgian who knocked out top seed [Carlos Alcaraz on Monday](/news/sports/alcaraz-out-of-shanghai-masters-zizou-bergs-wins-7-5-7-6-in-the-tournaments).

## Auger-Aliassime retires

Fourth seed **Felix Auger-Aliassime** retired injured while trailing **Casper Ruud** 2-5 in the first set. He had a medical timeout after the fifth game and was wearing white strapping on his left knee. Ruud said the Canadian appeared to twist his knee in the fourth game and seemed in real pain from then on.

## Jodar through, with a warning

Spain's **Rafael Jodar** beat Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2. He was given a code violation in the second set for swearing in Spanish at a ball boy, AFP said. Jodar meets Ruud in the quarter-finals.

## A tournament without its stars
