> The former Newcastle and Wigan defender reunites with head coach Nobby Solano. Pakistan face Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam in Indonesia from 26 September.

Former Newcastle United defender **Titus Bramble**, 45, has joined Pakistan's men's national football team as **assistant coach**, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced on 16 September. He is a coach, not a player, so the usual question of whether he qualifies to play for Pakistan through family heritage does not come up. The appointment comes **10 days** before Pakistan's first match at its first ever FIFA tournament.

## Who is Titus Bramble

The PFF's announcement said Bramble made more than 200 Premier League appearances. ProPakistani reports that he played for Ipswich Town, Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland. His best-known spell was at Newcastle, with 156 appearances over 5 seasons from 2002 to 2007. He earned 10 caps for England Under-21s but never played for the senior England team.

"From Premier League battles to the Pakistan touchline," the PFF wrote on Instagram. It said Bramble "begins a new chapter with the Pakistan Men's Senior National Team as Assistant Coach."

## A Newcastle reunion

Pakistan's head coach is **Nolberto "Nobby" Solano**, the former Peru and Newcastle midfielder who was appointed in July 2025. Solano and Bramble played together 83 times for Newcastle between 2002 and 2007.

Since taking over, Solano has looked for players of Pakistani heritage at clubs abroad, especially in England, to widen the national team's player pool. ProPakistani first reported on 7 September that he was likely to join.

## Pakistan's next fixtures: FIFA ASEAN Cup

Pakistan is one of 3 guest teams, along with Bangladesh and Hong Kong, China, at the new **FIFA ASEAN Cup**, which runs from **24 September to 5 October**. The other 11 of the 14 teams are ASEAN members. Geo News says it will be the men's team's first appearance in a FIFA tournament.

Pakistan play in **Division One, Group B**, which is being held in Indonesia (Bandung and Jakarta):

| Date | Opponent |
|---|---|
| Saturday 26 September | Thailand |
| Tuesday 29 September | Philippines |
| Friday 2 October | Vietnam |

Each group is a single round-robin, with every team playing the others once. The group winners go to the final on 5 October, and the Division One runners-up play for third place. FIFA and the PFF have not yet published kick-off times in PKT. Indonesia's western time zone is 2 hours ahead of Pakistan, so an evening kick-off there would be late afternoon here.

## What it means for Pakistani fans

Thailand and Vietnam are established Southeast Asian football nations, so the group is a real test for Solano's side and its new coaching team. Pakistan will play 3 competitive matches in 7 days, which is rare for a team that plays few official internationals. We will add kick-off times and broadcast details once they are announced.
