> The interior minister says blackmail and harassment of girls is now the NCCIA's biggest caseload, with 61 officers for all of Punjab. His four warnings, and what to do if you are targeted.

**"For God's sake, do not share your pictures under any circumstances": Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the appeal to women in Lahore on Friday, saying online harassment and blackmail of girls is now the biggest category of cases reaching the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).** He was speaking to journalists at an open court at the NCCIA's zonal headquarters in Lahore, [Geo News reported](https://www.geo.tv/latest/687947-naqvi-warns-women-against-sharing-photos-amid-surge-in-cybercrime).

Naqvi said a large number of women had complained of online harassment and cyber-blackmail, and that the agency has only 61 officers across Punjab to handle them. He said the government would add staff, plan an awareness campaign for girls and the public, and that he would take the issue to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

## His four warnings

1. **Photos:** do not share personal pictures with anyone online, under any circumstances.
2. **Money requests:** "If someone asks you for money online, do not transfer it under any circumstances", including people who say they are ill or in trouble.
3. **Passwords:** "If you disclose your password over the phone, how can your money remain secure?" Banks and wallets never ask for a password, PIN or one-time code on a call.
4. **Doubling schemes:** ignore anyone who promises to turn Rs 2,000 into Rs 4,000. He said hundreds of people had been arrested from illegal call centres running such frauds.

He also warned against fake social media accounts set up to impersonate real people and ask their contacts for money.

## If you are being harassed or blackmailed online

- **Do not pay and do not delete:** keep screenshots of the messages, the account's profile link and any payment requests. They are your evidence.
- **Report to the NCCIA:** cybercrime complaints, including harassment and blackmail, now go to the NCCIA, which replaced the FIA's cybercrime wing. You can file at a zonal office such as the one in Lahore.
- **Report the account** on the platform too, and lock down your own profile: hide your friends list, and turn off photo downloads where the app allows it.
- **Tell someone you trust.** Blackmailers rely on their target staying silent.

For money lost to a fraud, call your bank's helpline at once to block the transaction; the sooner it is reported, the better the chance of stopping it.
