> Two Gulf changes that matter to Pakistani workers: a legal way to work temporarily for another Bahraini employer, and closer checks that Kuwaiti employers pay what the contract says.

Two Gulf states where many Pakistanis work changed their labour rules this week. **Bahrain now allows foreign workers to work temporarily for an employer other than their sponsor for up to 90 days**, and **Kuwait's central bank has launched a wage payment system** to track private-sector salaries, ProPakistani reported on Thursday 15 October.

## Bahrain: up to 90 days with another employer

Until now, a foreign worker in Bahrain could legally work only for the employer sponsoring the work permit. Under the new arrangement from the **Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA)**, [reported by ProPakistani](https://propakistani.pk/2026/10/15/bahrain-introduces-new-work-rules-for-foreign-workers/):

- a worker can take temporary work with another employer for **up to 90 days**;
- the worker's **work permit must be valid for the whole period** of the temporary job;
- every arrangement is filed and managed through the LMRA's **Expat Management System**;
- the employer applying pays an administrative fee of **BHD 5**;
- if the new employer's Bahrainisation target is lower than the current employer's, the new employer pays an extra fee, set by comparing the two companies' rates. The amount was not published.

The stated aim is a more flexible labour market, letting companies take on foreign staff for short assignments without becoming their sponsors. No start date was given.

**For a Pakistani worker in Manama:** this is a legal route to extra income in slack periods, but only through the LMRA system. Informal side work outside it remains a breach of the rules.

## Kuwait: every private-sector salary tracked

The **Central Bank of Kuwait** has launched a centralised **Wage Payment System** that processes and monitors salary transfers through local banks in real time, [ProPakistani reported](https://propakistani.pk/2026/10/15/kuwait-introduces-new-salary-payment-system-for-all-private-companies/). It covers Kuwaiti and foreign employees of **all private-sector employers, whatever their size**, and is meant to let the authorities check that workers receive the salary written in their contracts. The Public Authority for Manpower will issue the implementing measures; no start date or penalties were published.

**For a Pakistani worker in Kuwait:** keep a copy of your contract and check that your bank credits match it. A salary that arrives late or short should now show up in the system, which strengthens a complaint to the Public Authority for Manpower.
