**Saudi Arabia will raise electricity, water and wastewater charges from 1 January 2027: homes will pay 21 halalas per kilowatt-hour for the first 6,000 units a month, up from 18, and 33 halalas above that, up from 30**, the Saudi Electricity Company and the National Water Company announced, as [ARY News reported](https://arynews.tv/saudi-arabia-announces-new-electricity-water-and-wastewater-charges) citing the Saudi Gazette. At today's rate of Rs 73.82 a riyal on our [riyal rate page](/data/sar-pkr), 21 halalas is about **Rs 15.50 a unit** (our arithmetic). The change comes alongside royal directives to support employees in the military, government and private sectors.

A fixed meter charge is added by meter size: SR 20 for water and SR 10 for wastewater on a meter up to 20mm, rising to SR 100 and SR 50 above 100mm.

## What it costs a family

A flat using **1,000 units a month** would pay SR 210 for energy instead of SR 180, **SR 30 more, about Rs 2,215** at today's rate, before fixed charges (our arithmetic). The extra cost grows in step with use: 2,000 units would add SR 60.
