About
Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) is one of Karachi's main public teaching hospitals, on Rafiqui Shaheed Road near the Hockey Club of Pakistan, the Kidney Centre and the National Institute of Child Health. Its history goes back to 1930, when it opened as a military medical corps hospital; it became the British General Hospital in 1942, and after 1947 was opened to the public under the Quaid-e-Azam's name as Jinnah Central Hospital. JPMC's stated mission includes providing care to all regardless of ability to pay, alongside postgraduate education and research. Its departments include accident and emergency, four medical units with a medical ICU, thoracic medicine, radiotherapy and oncology, dermatology, psychiatry and nephrology, along with the Basic Medical Sciences Institute.
