The Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) eye hospital in Korangi is a 115-bed tertiary teaching hospital that gives free eye treatment to people who cannot pay. Opened in October 1986, first in a tent, it was LRBT's second hospital; LRBT reports an average of about 850 outpatients and 133 cataract operations a day there. The hospital covers the full range of eye disease, with 24-hour emergency eye care, a paediatric department and subspecialty clinics for cornea, surgical and medical retina, uveitis, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and oculoplastics. Every outpatient is screened for glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. It is affiliated with Jinnah Sindh Medical University and recognised by the CPSP for ophthalmology training, and it runs LRBT's School of Paramedicine.
