PSW biometrics move to the PakID app: no e-Sahulat trip to register now

Pakistan Single Window has connected its platform to NADRA's PakID mobile app, so the biometric verification that every PSW subscription needed can now be done on a phone instead of at a NADRA e-Sahulat centre. It covers new subscriptions, renewals and profile updates.

For anyone who imports, exports or clears goods, this removes the last step in PSW onboarding that required physically standing in front of a thumb scanner.

Who this actually helps

Traders inside Pakistan. A PSW subscription is mandatory to file a goods declaration with Customs. Until now the biometric step meant an appointment at an e-Sahulat franchise, in person, during working hours, with the CNIC holder present. That is a half day for a small importer in Faisalabad or Sialkot.

Overseas Pakistanis. This is the bigger change. Someone running a trading company from Dubai, Jeddah or Manchester previously had to be in Pakistan, or send an authorised person, to complete the biometric. PSW says the app route now covers them.

How it works

Verification happens inside the PakID app, which NADRA already uses for remote CNIC renewals and family registration certificates. The flow is the app's standard identity check on a smartphone, then PSW picks up the verified result against your CNIC and releases the subscription step.

PSW chief executive Syed Aftab Haider put it plainly: "By enabling remote biometric verification, we are removing another physical trip in the onboarding process."

Both channels stay open for now. If the app route fails, or your CNIC record has an issue the app cannot resolve, the e-Sahulat centre is still there. PSW has called this an interim phase without giving an end date, so do not assume the counters close soon.

Before you start

• Your CNIC must be valid and unexpired. A CNIC in renewal limbo will fail the check. Our NADRA fee calculator shows the current CNIC renewal and urgent category fees if yours has lapsed.
• The phone number registered against your CNIC should be one you hold, because the app sends a one time code to it.
• Use the official PakID app from NADRA. Fake "PakID" and "NADRA verification" apps appear on app stores every few months and ask for CNIC photographs.
• Keep the PSW subscription details and the NTN consistent with FBR records, or the subscription will stall after the biometric clears. If you are not yet registered with FBR, start with our FBR IRIS guide.

The wider push

This is the second remote biometric move in a month. FBR has been extending the same idea to taxpayer registration, where NADRA verification at home replaces a visit. The direction is consistent: government identity checks are moving from the franchise counter to the phone, with the CNIC and the registered mobile number as the anchor.

The thing to watch is failure handling. Remote identity checks fail most often for people with old fingerprint records, worn prints from manual work, and CNICs issued before 2012. Those cases still need a counter.
