Zu Peshawar BRT cards need NADRA biometric registration by 31 December, Rs 10 fee
Unregistered Zu Cards stop working on 1 January 2027. Here is what to take to the BRT ticket desk, and how children and foreign visitors are handled.
Every Zu Card used on Peshawar's BRT now has to be registered against the holder's CNIC with NADRA biometric verification, TransPeshawar has announced. The deadline is 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027, cards that have not been registered will be blocked and will no longer work at the gates, ARY News reported.
Zu Peshawar (the BRT) is the main public transport line along the city's GT Road corridor, so the change touches a large share of daily commuters, students and office workers in Peshawar.
How to register your Zu Card
- Go to the ticket desk at any BRT station during station hours.
- Take your original CNIC and your Zu Card.
- Station staff enter your details and take your fingerprint for NADRA biometric verification.
- Pay the registration fee of Rs 10.
That is the whole process. There is no online form for adults: the fingerprint has to be taken at the counter.
Children and students under 18
Passengers under 18 can register in one of two ways:
- With a B-Form: bring the child's Zu Card and B-Form, and the child gives the biometric verification.
- With a parent's or guardian's CNIC: bring the child's Zu Card and the adult's original CNIC. The parent or legal guardian must be present at the desk for their own biometric verification.
Foreign visitors
Foreign nationals do not register a Zu Card. They can travel with a Single Journey Ticket or through the Zu app.
Why TransPeshawar is doing it
TransPeshawar Chief Executive Dr Syed Murtaza Asghar Bukhari said identity verification would make the system more secure and travel safer and more organised. He asked passengers to register early instead of waiting for the last days of December, when queues at the counters are likely.
What to do now
Register on your next trip rather than in the final week. If your Zu Card is linked to a family member's CNIC, plan a trip together, since the cardholder's adult guarantor has to be there in person. If your CNIC has expired, renew it first: our NADRA fee calculator shows what a renewal costs. Students who mainly use the BRT for college can register with a B-Form, so a missing CNIC is not a reason to lose the card.
