Bai Virbaiji Soparivala Parsi High School, Saddar, since 1859
Bai Virbaiji Soparivala (BVS) Parsi High School is one of Karachi's oldest schools. According to its own history, it began in 1859 as a small Parsi Balakshala in a private house, took the name Parsi Virbaiji School in 1870 after a donation from Seth Shapurji Hormusji Soparivala in memory of his wife, and moved into its present building on what was then Victoria Road in 1905. The school stands on Main Abdullah Haroon Road in Saddar. BVS has primary and secondary sections. Its admission notices refer to Grade 1 entry and to Grade 6, 7 and 8 entry in both an AKU-EB stream and a Cambridge stream, with registration for each opening and closing on dates the school posts on its Admission Policy page. Activities featured on the site include scouts, a school band, scrabble, chess, sports, and computers and robotics. The school describes its approach as holistic and child-centred, aiming at critical thinking and lifelong learning.
