Chad Laycock takes 5 wickets in an over, 6 for 26 for KZN Inland, but Titans still win by 21 runs

KZN Inland fast bowler Chad Laycock took five wickets in one over against Titans in the CSA Pro20 Cup in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 13 October, the first time it has been done in South African T20 cricket, ESPNcricinfo reported. He finished with 6 for 26, the best figures in the competition's history.

The over

It came in the 19th over of Titans' innings, with Titans going well at 193 for 4:

1. Leus du Plooy, out.
2. Dayyaan Galiem, out.
3. Aphiwe Mnyanda, out.
4. Janco Smit, out.
5. Esosa Aihevba, out.

The last four came off consecutive balls, another South African T20 record. Titans were all out for 204, losing their last six wickets for 11 runs.

Laycock had also taken the first wicket of the innings, removing Lhuan-dre Pretorius for 81 off 36 balls in the ninth over after an opening stand of 112.

Still on the losing side

The over was not enough. Chasing 205, KZN Inland made 183 for 6 and lost by 21 runs, with Laycock unbeaten on 31. Titans have now gone six matches unbeaten and lead the table.

Laycock is the fourth bowler known to have taken five wickets in an over in men's T20 cricket:

His 6 for 26 beats Beuran Hendricks' 6 for 29 from 2014 as the best in the Pro20 Cup. Four wickets in four balls in T20 internationals has been done by Full Member bowlers including Lasith Malinga, Rashid Khan, Curtis Campher and Jason Holder.
