AKD Securities warns of Aqeel Karim Dhedhi deepfake videos selling fake schemes
AI videos of AKD's Aqeel Karim Dhedhi and Hina Junaid are selling fake investment plans and stock tips on Facebook. AKD denies any link and has gone to the NCCIA. How to check a broker before you pay.
AKD Securities, one of Pakistan's best-known stockbrokers, has warned investors about AI deepfake videos that use the faces and voices of AKD Group Chairman Aqeel Karim Dhedhi and company Chairperson Hina Junaid to pull people into fake investment schemes and "stock tips" services. The warning was published on Monday, 28 September 2026.
If you have seen a Facebook video of a well-known PSX name promising guaranteed returns on your savings, treat it as a scam until proven otherwise.
What the scammers are doing
- Fake Facebook pages and accounts run AI-generated videos of Mr Dhedhi and Ms Junaid, and similar content circulates on other social media.
- The videos push investment schemes or paid stock-market advisory groups, then collect money through calls, websites or apps.
- AKD says it has no connection to any of this content, the accounts, the callers, or any website or app making such claims, and that it has launched no such schemes.
- The company filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on 16 September 2026, asking it to investigate and take the content down.
How to check before you send money
- Only a licensed securities broker can take money to trade shares for you. Check the name against the list of brokers on the Pakistan Stock Exchange website and SECP's register before you open any account.
- Money should go to a broker's own company account, never to a personal bank account, JazzCash or Easypaisa number.
- No broker guarantees returns. "Double in a month" or "fixed 10% a week" is the clearest sign of fraud.
- Call the company on the number on its official website, not the number in the video or the WhatsApp group.
- Check your holdings yourself through the CDC account statement the depository sends you, not a screenshot the "adviser" shares.
If you have already paid
Report it to the NCCIA through its online complaint portal or helpline, and file a complaint with SECP. Tell your bank or wallet provider at once and ask it to block the recipient account; the sooner you report, the better the chance of freezing the money. Keep screenshots of the video, the page, the chat and every transfer receipt.
Deepfakes of well-known Pakistani business people and TV anchors are now a common hook for investment fraud. The same checks apply whichever face is in the video.
