Four militants killed in Panjgur operation, 35 in a week under Radd-ul-Fitna

Security forces killed four militants in an intelligence-based operation in the Koh-Prom and Aphan areas of Panjgur district, Balochistan, on Tuesday, officials said. A large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered.

The four belonged to Fitna al Hindustan, the name the state uses for Baloch separatist groups it says are backed from across the eastern border.

No casualties on the security side were reported in the operation.

The wider week

More than 35 militants have been killed across Balochistan in the past week under the Radd-ul-Fitna operation. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti commended Tuesday's action and said operations will continue until the complete elimination of terrorism.

The tempo is the point here. Panjgur sits on the Makran belt near the Iranian border and has been one of the most contested districts of the past two years, along with Kech and Awaran.

Two abductions still open

Two cases from the same week remain unresolved.

Kharan Deputy Commissioner Munir Soomro was kidnapped two days ago along with three other people. Search operations have so far produced no result. The abduction of a serving deputy commissioner is a significant escalation, because it targets the civil administration rather than the security forces.

Separately, two cricketers, Zakir and Wadan Bugti, were abducted near Dera Bugti. No group has claimed responsibility.

The context on the other border
