KP police seek 120% security allowance for southern and merged districts, over Rs 5 billion a month

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have proposed a security challenge allowance of 120% of basic salary for personnel serving in the province's southern and merged districts, ARY News reported on Sunday 18 October. A summary of the proposals has been sent to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.

The proposed allowance

The allowance alone would add more than Rs 5.15 billion a month to spending, according to the report. ARY did not list the districts in each group or say how the allowance would differ by rank.

What it means for a constable's pay

The allowance is worked out on basic pay, so it more than doubles the basic salary of an officer in the south or merged districts. For every Rs 10,000 of basic pay, the allowance would add Rs 12,000 a month at 120%, Rs 10,000 at 100% and Rs 7,500 at 75%. Equipment and funding asked for in 2026-27

The police also asked for money for equipment and projects in the current fiscal year:

• Rs 11.16 billion for procurement in settled districts and Rs 3.35 billion for merged districts
• Rs 13.87 billion more for weapons, modern equipment and transport
• Rs 12.22 billion for development: Rs 4.64 billion for 19 ongoing projects, Rs 2.74 billion for technical upgrades, and Rs 4.841 billion under the Accelerated Implementation Programme

The list includes submachine guns, rifles, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, anti-drone guns and counter-drone systems, armoured personnel carriers and pickups.
