Punjab e-bike scheme last date 4 October: bikes from early November, Rs 3,028 a month
Over 1.14 million students have applied for 100,000 electric bikes. What you pay, who qualifies and how to finish your application before Saturday.
The last date to apply for the Punjab e-bike scheme is Saturday 4 October 2026, and bikes go to successful students from early November, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in a post on 1 October, first reported by ProPakistani. By then 1,149,058 students had registered on the portal, including 222,101 women, for 100,000 electric bikes in the current phase. That is about 11 applicants for every bike.
E-bike scheme: what a student pays
The bike's listed price is Rs 199,000. The Punjab government pays Rs 90,000 of it, so the student repays Rs 109,000:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listed price | Rs 199,000 |
| Government subsidy | Rs 90,000 |
| Student pays | Rs 109,000 |
| Down payment | None |
| Monthly instalment | Rs 3,028 for 36 months |
Rs 3,028 a month for three years comes to Rs 109,008, so there is no hidden mark-up: the government covers the interest, the insurance, registration and the annual token tax. Each student also gets a helmet, a safety rod and two days of riding training.
Who can apply
According to the eligibility reported by The Nation when the portal opened:
- A Punjab domicile or a CNIC with a Punjab address.
- A regular student at an HEC-recognised university or degree college, government or private.
- At least 18 years old.
- A learner's permit or a valid motorcycle licence.
- One student per family.
How to apply before 4 October
- Go to the official portal, bikes.punjab.gov.pk. Ignore look-alike sites and WhatsApp links asking for a fee: the application is free.
- Register with your CNIC and mobile number, then fill in your institution and roll number.
- Upload your documents and press submit. A half-finished form does not count: in September, The Nation reported that hundreds of thousands of registrations had not been submitted.
- Note your application number and check the portal for the result of the selection after the deadline.
If you do not have a learner's permit or licence yet, sort that out first: it is one of the conditions.
What happens next
Distribution starts in early November, the CM said. In September she had told officials to hand bikes over within six weeks of applications closing, which points to the first half of November. The sources above do not say how winners will be picked (balloting or merit); we will add it here when the government announces it.
Is it a good deal?
Compared with buying an electric bike outright, yes. Similar models from private makers sell for Rs 199,000 and more: see current electric bike prices in Pakistan, and OKLA's range of nine e-bikes. Running costs are low too: charging at home costs a fraction of petrol, which you can compare with our fuel cost calculator and electricity bill calculator.
