Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk road closed until further notice: Islamabad traffic diversions

Islamabad road closure: the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has closed the road between Rawal Dam Chowk and Kashmir Chowk from Thursday 15 October 2026 until further notice, ProPakistani reported, citing the ITP. The closure hits one of the busiest links between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and traffic to Park Road, Lehtrar Road, Murree and Bhara Kahu.

The ITP has asked commuters to leave 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual because the alternative routes are expected to be congested. Traffic officers are posted along the diversions, and updates are being shared on FM 92.4 and the ITP's social media pages.

The ITP's announcement did not give a reason or an end date. Work on the Rs 1.45 billion Kashmir Chowk underpass began on 5 October (our earlier story), and we will update this page when the ITP or the CDA says when the road reopens.

Diversions: which way to go

From G-5, the Secretariat or Serena Hotel to Rawalpindi

• Srinagar Highway, then Ninth Avenue, or
• Srinagar Highway, then Mehrabad and Peshawar Road.

To Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road or Lehtrar Road

• Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, past the Tulip Hotel, then Rawal Dam Road.

To Murree or Bhara Kahu

• Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, Srinagar Highway and the Jinnah Square Underpass.

From Rawalpindi into Islamabad

• Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road and Srinagar Highway.

From Park Road or Lehtrar Road into Islamabad

• Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.

Tips for the next few days

1. Leave early: the ITP's own advice is 20 to 25 minutes extra.
2. Expect queues near Faizabad and Zero Point: several of the listed diversions pass through them.
3. Check FM 92.4 before you set off for live updates.
