E challan check online: Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad portals, fines and how to pay

An e challan check takes about thirty seconds if you go to the right portal. Each province runs its own system, so the first thing to get right is which one applies to the camera or the officer that booked you.

Payment in Punjab runs through ePay Punjab, the Punjab Information Technology Board portal and app, and can be settled from 35 banks by ATM, internet banking, mobile banking or over the counter.

Punjab: check your e challan on the PSCA portal

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority runs the camera challans in Punjab and publishes them at echallan.psca.gop.pk.

1. Open the site. The search box is on the front page, no login needed.
2. Enter the plate number. The portal accepts three formats: ABC 000, ABC 0000 and ABC-00-0000. Type it the way it is printed on your number plate, with the space or the hyphens.
3. Enter your 13-digit CNIC without dashes, or the chassis number if the vehicle is not registered in your name.
4. Submit. Any open challan against that vehicle is listed with the offence, the amount and the date.

Both fields are required. The portal will not show you challans from a plate number alone, which is deliberate: it stops strangers pulling up your record from a photo of your car.

There is also the PSCA Public Safety app, on Google Play and the App Store, which does the same lookup from your phone.

Punjab: how to pay

Camera challans and officer challans both settle through ePay Punjab. You generate a payment number against the challan and then pay it from any of these channels:

• Internet banking or mobile banking app of your own bank
• ATM, using the bill payment or government payment menu
• Over the counter at a branch

The banks connected to ePay Punjab include HBL, UBL, MCB and MCB Islamic, National Bank, Bank of Punjab, Bank Alfalah, Askari, Allied, Bank Al Habib, Meezan, Dubai Islamic, BankIslami, Faysal, JS, Soneri, Habib Metro, Sindh Bank, Standard Chartered, Citibank, Summit, Samba, Silkbank, Al Baraka, Bank of Khyber, SME Bank, First Women Bank, and the microfinance banks including Telenor Microfinance, Khushhali, FINCA, NRSP, Apna and First Microfinance. If an officer stopped you and kept your documents, the older route still applies: pay the fine at the designated bank and collect your papers from the traffic officer the same day.

The 10-day rule, and why waiting doubles the bill

This is the part most people find out too late. Punjab Police states the process plainly: if you do not collect your documents within 10 days, they are sent to the Judicial Magistrate. After that you pay twice the original fine to get them back.

A Rs 500 seatbelt challan becomes Rs 1,000 plus a trip to a magistrate's office. The ten days start from the day of the challan, not from the day you notice it, which is the argument for running the check on the portal every couple of months whether or not you think you were booked.

What the fine should actually be: the Punjab schedule

Penalties in Punjab come from the Twelfth Schedule of Ordinance XIX of 1965, published by Traffic Police Punjab. The common ones:

If the amount on your challan does not match the schedule for your vehicle type, that is the first thing to raise.

Islamabad

Islamabad Traffic Police issues and tracks its own digital challans at traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk/Echallan, with online payment built into the same service. The ITP helpline is 1915, staffed round the clock, and it is the fastest way to sort out a challan that will not appear online or one attached to the wrong vehicle.

Licence questions go to a different system: DLIMS Islamabad verifies a driving licence, and appointments at the licensing branch are booked online rather than by queueing.

Sindh

Sindh Police runs TRACS, the Traffic Regulation and Citation System, at tracs.sindhpolice.gov.pk. It covers Karachi and the rest of the province, and the e-ticket lookup lives at tracs.sindhpolice.gov.pk/check-challan. The form asks for three things together: your CNIC number, the mobile number registered against the vehicle, and the vehicle registration number, then a captcha. A vehicle registered in a bank's, leasing company's or company's name is searched by chassis number instead of CNIC. Fines are paid through the TRACS 4 Citizens app (App Store and Google Play) or at a Sahulat Center, listed on the same site. Helpline 1915.

Sindh fines come from the province's own schedule and are higher than Punjab's for the same offence. From the TRACS fine list for a car or jeep (93 violations, read on 20 September 2026; the list carries its own note that authorities can revise the amounts):

The lowest fine on the list is Rs 1,000 and the highest Rs 50,000; the average across all 93 lines is Rs 12,516. Points go on your driving record, and TRACS warns that enough of them can suspend the licence. Motorcycle, PSV and HTV fines are on separate tabs of the same list.

Disputing a challan that is not yours

Camera challans go to the registered owner, not the driver. That matters in three common situations:

• You sold the car and never transferred it. The challan is yours until the transfer is recorded. This is the single most expensive paperwork mistake in Pakistani motoring, because token tax and any future case follow the same record. Our vehicle transfer fee calculator has what the transfer costs.
• The plate was misread. Camera systems misread characters, especially on dirty or bent plates. The challan will carry a photograph; ask for it.
• The vehicle was with a driver, a workshop or a relative. The fine still lands on the registered owner.

To contest, go to the traffic sector office or the authority that issued it, with your registration book, your CNIC and the challan number, and ask to see the evidence image. Do this inside the ten days. Once the file has moved to the magistrate you are arguing about a doubled amount.

Mistakes that cost people money

• Paying a "challan agent" on WhatsApp. The official portals are the ones above, all on .gov.pk or gop.pk addresses. Anything else asking for your CNIC and a payment is a scam.
• Checking only one province. If you drive Lahore to Islamabad or Karachi to Hyderabad, you can hold open challans on two systems at once.
• Letting them sit until token tax time. Excise offices and transfer counters check outstanding challans. An unpaid one can stall a transfer or a fitness certificate.
• Assuming no notification means no challan. SMS alerts depend on the number registered against the vehicle. If you changed numbers, you will hear nothing.
