Lahore traffic police have started taking motorists with unpaid e-challans to court, and anyone who ignores a payment notice for 10 days will now get a court summons, ProPakistani reported on Monday, 2 November 2026. Pending digital challans and documents seized over non-payment in the city are close to 800,000, officials said.

If a camera has caught your bike or car in Lahore and you have not paid, the cheapest moment to settle is now, before the fine doubles and the file moves to a court.

How the e-challan process now works in Lahore

  1. A Safe City camera records the violation and an e-challan is issued against the plate.
  2. If it is not paid within 10 days, the fine doubles, under the existing procedure.
  3. Unpaid challans are forwarded to the courts. Traffic wardens are now posted at courts across Lahore to help the judicial staff recover the fines.
  4. Motorists who still do not pay after a notice will be summoned to court.

Officials said the doubled fines have put many people off collecting documents that were seized and sent to court. Some motorists have even applied for duplicate identity cards and driving licences rather than pay and get their originals back, according to the report. Duplicates do not clear the challan: the record stays on the vehicle.

What it means for you

  • Pay inside 10 days. After that you pay double, and after the notice you may also lose a day in court.
  • Seized licence or CNIC? Follow the court procedure to pay and collect it. The traffic police have asked motorists to do exactly that.
  • Buying a used bike or car? Check the seller's plate before you pay, and ask for challans to be cleared before the transfer. Our vehicle transfer fee calculator covers the rest of the cost.
  • The cameras do not forget. In October a Lahore motorcycle was impounded with 113 unpaid e-challans worth Rs 190,000, most of them for riding without a helmet.
