The Green Line train (5UP) leaves Karachi Cantt at 10:00 pm and reaches Margala, Islamabad, at 8:10 pm the next day; the return train (6DN) leaves Margala at 3:00 pm and reaches Karachi Cantt at 1:50 pm the next day. The full Karachi to Islamabad fare is Rs 6,350 in economy and Rs 15,350 in AC business. These are the times and fares on Pakistan Railways' own RABTA booking system, checked on 13 October 2026 for journeys from 15 October to 10 November 2026.

This page gives the Green Line train timing at every stop in both directions, the fare for each class between the main cities, and how to book a seat without paying an agent.

How to book a Green Line ticket: step by step

  1. Open RABTA, Pakistan Railways' own booking site at pakrailways.gov.pk, or its app. Do not use a reseller's site.
  2. Make an account with your name, mobile number and CNIC. Our Pakistan Railways online booking guide covers sign-up, concessions and refunds in detail.
  3. Search with your boarding station (Karachi Cantt, not Karachi City, for the Green Line), your destination and the date. Pick 5UP or 6DN from the list; RABTA labels it "Green Line".
  4. Choose the class and seat. The search shows how many seats are left in each class.
  5. Pay within 30 minutes. RABTA cancels an unpaid order after 30 minutes, so have your bank app or card ready before you lock seats.
  6. Save the e-ticket on your phone and carry the CNIC you booked with. The ticket checker can ask for both.
  7. Check the delay on the day under Train Timings on pakrailways.gov.pk, or call the Pakistan Railways helpline 117.

Booking opens 90 days before the journey, so seats for Eid and the winter holidays can be bought well ahead.

Common mistakes

  • Booking the wrong date for an after-midnight stop. Going north, 5UP reaches Hyderabad and Rohri after midnight; going south, 6DN reaches Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Rohri after midnight. Book for the date you actually board, not the date the train left Karachi or Islamabad.
  • Going to Karachi City station. The Green Line starts and ends at Karachi Cantt.
  • Getting off at Rawalpindi when you live in Islamabad, or the reverse. 5UP stops at both; Margala is the last stop, 20 minutes after Rawalpindi.
  • Paying an agent's mark-up. RABTA sells at the published fare.
  • Leaving payment too late. Locked seats are released after 30 minutes.
