Nvidia pledges $250 million in computing to UK AI safety research over five years
Jensen Huang's $50 million a year in compute will go to agentic safety testing at Oxford, Imperial and UCL.

Nvidia will give the United Kingdom $250 million worth of computing over five years for AI safety and security research, chief executive Jensen Huang announced on Wednesday, 14 October, Reuters reported. That is $50 million a year, or about Rs 69 billion in total at Rs 277 to the dollar.
What the money pays for
The pledge is in computing resources, not cash. It is meant for agentic safety testing, which checks how AI systems behave when they act on their own, and for building stronger safeguards for more powerful models. The beneficiaries named so far are:
- BOLD, a University of Oxford-led programme on AI systems that learn, adapt and work alongside people;
- robotics safety work at Imperial College London;
- programmes at University College London.
"AI capability and safety must advance together," Huang said. UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan said the support would help make future AI safe and secure and serve people's interests.
Why the UK
Britain has no major AI model maker of its own but wants to lead in testing and risk management, largely through its government-run AI Security Institute. On Monday Microsoft President Brad Smith said the UK was well placed to lead work on AI safety rules.
Scrutiny has grown after Anthropic and OpenAI reported cases of AI agents acting in unwanted ways, and some in the industry warn that advanced AI could become a serious threat.
What it means in Pakistan
Pakistan has a large base of developers and freelancers who build on these models. Research funded this way is usually published, so universities and startups here can use the testing methods that come out of it.
