Spotify plans a $4 to $5 AI add-on for Premium to remix songs and make covers, FT reports
The paid extra could arrive as early as the first quarter of 2027 and would make Premium up to 39% dearer for those who take it. Artists' pay is still being negotiated.
Spotify is preparing an optional AI add-on for Premium that would let subscribers remix existing songs and create cover versions in the style of any band, at an extra $4 to $5 a month, the Financial Times reported, as summarised by ARY News on Monday, 2 November 2026. Spotify has not announced the product.
What is reported
- What it does: AI tools to remix tracks already on Spotify and to generate covers of any song in another artist's style.
- Price: about $4 to $5 a month on top of Premium, which would make Premium up to 39% more expensive for those who opt in.
- When: the rollout could start as soon as the first quarter of 2027.
- Take-up: an analyst quoted by the FT expects about 8% of subscribers to be paying for it by the end of 2028.
- Artists: Spotify is said to be negotiating with record labels, and how artists will be paid has not been settled. Some artists are reportedly reluctant to let their music be used for AI.
What it would cost in rupees
At the interbank dollar rate on our USD to PKR page (about Rs 276.72 on 2 November), $4 to $5 is roughly Rs 1,107 to Rs 1,384 a month before any local pricing. Spotify sets its own lower prices for Pakistan, so a local price, if the add-on comes here at all, could be very different. Card payments in dollars may also attract bank and tax charges; check with the currency converter.
Why it matters
Spotify has spent the past year tightening its rules on AI-generated tracks: we reported in October that it had pulled 50 million AI slop and spam tracks from recommendations. A paid remix tool would put Spotify on the side of selling AI music features, not only policing them, and puts it ahead of rivals such as Qobuz, which is moving away from AI-generated music.
For listeners in Pakistan nothing changes yet: there is no launch date, no confirmed price and no word on which countries get it first.
What to watch
Spotify's next results and any label deals announced in the coming months. We will update this story if Spotify confirms the add-on or its price.
