BYD flash charging in Pakistan: 1,500 kW chargers that fill 10% to 70% in 5 minutes under study

BYD says it is evaluating its megawatt FLASH Charging network for Pakistan with partner Mega Motor Company. No date yet, and today's BYD cars here would not reach the headline speeds.

BYD is evaluating its FLASH Charging technology for Pakistan, a system it says can deliver up to 1,500 kW (1.5 megawatts) through a single connector, BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said, as reported by ProPakistani. The company's partner in the talks is Mega Motor Company, which sells BYD cars in Pakistan.

No launch date has been confirmed for the chargers or for any local production of the new battery platform.

How fast is BYD flash charging?

The charger is paired with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery. BYD's own claims, for compatible new vehicles only:

ChargeTime claimed by BYD
10% to 70%5 minutes
10% to 97%9 minutes
20% to 97% at minus 30 degrees C12 minutes

That is close to the time it takes to fill a petrol tank.

Will my BYD charge this fast?

Not necessarily. BYD cars already sold here would be able to plug into future FLASH chargers, but they would charge at the maximum rate their own battery supports. The five-minute figures need cars built on the newer battery and charging platform. ProPakistani notes actual speeds depend on battery size, architecture and the car's charging limit.

What has to happen first

According to the report, any rollout depends on:

  • Infrastructure readiness, including a strong power supply at each charging site.
  • Talks with stakeholders.
  • BYD's product plans for the Pakistani market.

BYD's local assembly plant is targeted to start in the second half of 2026, with capacity for about 25,000 vehicles a year, expandable to 50,000.

Is an EV cheaper to run than a petrol car?

Petrol is Rs 398.30 a litre at PSO's Karachi depot today (petrol price). Use the fuel cost calculator to see what your monthly driving costs in petrol, then the electricity bill calculator to see what the same kilometres add to a home bill if you charge overnight.

We will update this story when BYD or Mega Motor names sites, prices or a date.

Frequently asked questions

When will BYD flash charging come to Pakistan?
No date has been confirmed. BYD says it is evaluating the technology with Mega Motor Company, and rollout depends on infrastructure and stakeholder talks.
Can current BYD cars use flash chargers?
They can plug in, but will charge only as fast as their own battery allows. The 5-minute figures apply to cars on BYD's newer battery platform.
