Yuvraj Singh named Delhi Capitals assistant and batting coach under Ganguly

Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027, the franchise announced on Tuesday, 13 October. It is the first formal coaching role for the former India allrounder, who retired from all cricket in 2019. "Yuvraj Singh" was among the searches trending on Google in Pakistan on Tuesday evening.

ESPNcricinfo, which had reported in June that Yuvraj and Sourav Ganguly would take the senior coaching jobs at Delhi, confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.

The new Delhi Capitals coaching set-up

• Head coach: Sourav Ganguly, unveiled last week. He replaces Hemang Badani.
• Assistant and batting coach: Yuvraj Singh.

The change follows the arrangement Delhi's two co-owners, GMR Sports and JSW Sports, reached after IPL 2024: each runs the franchise's cricket operations in alternating two-year cycles, ESPNcricinfo reported.

What Yuvraj and the owners said

In a statement carried by ESPNcricinfo, Yuvraj said he was excited to begin "a new chapter" with Delhi, that he had an old association with the franchise and knew its owners well, and that he was looking forward to working with Ganguly again, this time as coaches. He called coaching something he is "truly passionate about".

Parth Jindal, Delhi Capitals' co-owner and chairman, described Yuvraj as one of Indian cricket's greatest match-winners and pointed to the role he has played in mentoring young Indian batters.

Why Delhi wanted him

Yuvraj has no formal coaching record, but several of India's leading young batters have publicly credited him with shaping their game, including India's Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, ESPNcricinfo noted.

Yuvraj's IPL record

Delhi bought him for INR 16 crore before the 2015 season, which made him the most expensive player in the IPL at the time, according to ESPNcricinfo.

What comes next

Delhi have yet to name the rest of their support staff for 2027 or confirm their retentions. The IPL has not announced dates for the 2027 player auction. For Pakistan's own season, follow fixtures and results on our PSL 2026 schedule, results and points table page.
