The PTI long march sets off today, Sunday 4 October, at 1pm from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat, and plans to reach Khairabad on the Indus on Thursday 8 October, where the party says it will announce its next step. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi posted the five-day schedule on X in the early hours of Sunday, after the second round of government-opposition talks at Parliament House ended in deadlock, Dawn reported.

Roads to expect delays on

The plan does not name road closures, but the stops trace a clear line. Expect slow traffic and crowds on the Indus Highway (N-55) between Lakki Marwat, Karak and Kohat from Sunday to Tuesday, on the Kohat road into Peshawar on Tuesday and Wednesday, around the Peshawar motorway toll plaza and Charsadda Interchange on Wednesday, and towards Khairabad on the GT Road, at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab boundary near Attock, on Thursday. Travellers between Peshawar and Islamabad should check the latest from Motorway Police before setting out on 7 and 8 October.

What the government says

PM's Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said the march will not be allowed to enter Islamabad, and was quoted by Dawn as saying "even if they do not postpone it, we have arrangements in place to stop them". PTI interim chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said the march would go ahead. The talks stalled over access to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi and over counterterrorism in KP, according to Dawn's account of statements from both sides. PTI supporters have pledged the march will be peaceful, The Express Tribune reported.

Already hitting freight and prices

Goods transport felt it before the first step. Some Karachi operators stopped trucks going beyond Gujranwala, and containers have piled up in Karachi, with demurrage of Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per container a day, The Express Tribune reported. The Karachi Goods Carrier Association said vehicles had been stopped since around 5 September, when police began requisitioning them; more than 2,000 were taken in September. Transport costs were already up 27.43% year on year in September's inflation figures. Goods carriers have also called a separate wheel-jam strike from 10 October (details).
