Saylor hints at new Strategy bitcoin buy as STRC buybacks outpace its BTC purchases
Strategy holds 848,000 BTC, but in recent weeks it has spent far more buying back its own preferred shares. The filing is due Tuesday.

Michael Saylor hinted on Sunday 11 October 2026 that Strategy has bought more bitcoin, posting "There's always room for more orange" on X, the signal investors watch for on Sundays, Cointelegraph reported. The confirming filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission is unlikely before Tuesday 13 October, because US federal offices are shut on Monday for Columbus Day.
Strategy's bitcoin in numbers
| Figure | |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin held (8-K filed 5 October) | 848,000 BTC |
| Bought 28 September to 4 October | 334 BTC for $28.7 million |
| STRC preferred shares bought back, same week | about 1.77 million for $176.3 million |
| Raised from new common shares in Q3 | $5.41 billion (analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera) |
The pattern Cointelegraph points to: in recent weeks Strategy has spent far more buying back its own STRC preferred stock than buying bitcoin, more than six times its weekly bitcoin budget in September. Perera noted the company ended the third quarter with only 1,666 more BTC than at the end of June, and that the filings put 9.5% of the Q3 raise directly into bitcoin, with the rest going to a dollar reserve, cash, dividends and preferred buybacks.
Why it matters
Strategy is the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, so the size of its weekly buying is read as a gauge of demand. A smaller buyer at the top of the market leaves the price more exposed to other flows.
What it means in rupees
Bitcoin was about $83,800 on Sunday evening on our bitcoin price page. At the open-market dollar rate of about Rs 277 on our dollar rate page, that is roughly Rs 23.2 million for one coin. Strategy's 848,000 BTC would be worth about $71 billion at that price.
