Lahore traffic police have impounded a motorcycle with 113 unpaid e-challans worth Rs 190,000 after stopping it on Walton Road on Tuesday 6 October 2026. The camera record showed 89 challans for riding without a helmet and 24 for jumping red lights, and the bike was sent to Factory Area police station, 24 News and ProPakistani reported.

If you ride in Lahore without a helmet, the cameras are counting, and the bill keeps growing until someone stops you.

Who the police are stopping

Lahore's Chief Traffic Officer, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, said the city's ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras flag repeat offenders, and the crackdown concentrates on vehicles with more than 20 unpaid violations. "The crackdown against motorists who have failed to pay their e-challans will continue," he said, according to 24 News. Officers are also checking for tampered number plates on motorcycles and cars.

This is not a one-off. In July a Lahore milkman's motorcycle was found with Rs 100,000 in unpaid challans from 50 helmet violations, PakWheels reported. The traffic police have also written to government departments whose vehicles carry unpaid e-challans, asking them to pay.

What it means for you

  • Check before you are stopped. Challans pile up silently; the first notice many riders get is a police stop and an impounded bike.
  • Buying a used bike or car? Run the check on the seller's plate first, and ask for the challans to be cleared before the transfer. Our vehicle transfer fee calculator shows the rest of the cost.
  • Wear the helmet. Riding without one was 89 of this rider's 113 challans.
