Gas load shedding in Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will shut off gas supply in parts of west Karachi from 10pm on Saturday 17 October until 9am on Sunday 18 October 2026, the company announced on Friday, ARY News reported. The shutdown is for repair work on SSGC's 24-inch Sher Shah mainline and is temporary, the company said.

Areas that may lose gas

  • Baldia Town
  • Ittehad Town
  • Saeedabad
  • Naval Colony

Areas that may get low pressure

  • Musharraf Colony and Mawach Goth
  • Parts of Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Bahar, Gulshan-e-Zia, Sector 16 and Ghaziabad
  • Altaf Nagar, Mehran City and Ramzan Goth
  • SITE Industrial Area, where pressure may drop

SSGC warned that if the work runs past 9am, pressure could stay low in these areas for longer on Sunday morning.

What to do

  • Cook and fill water early. Plan Saturday dinner before 10pm and keep breakfast simple, since supply returns at 9am at the earliest.
  • Turn off appliances and pilot lights before you sleep, and check that the stove knobs are closed so gas does not escape when supply resumes.
  • Factories in SITE should plan Sunday morning shifts around a possible pressure drop.
  • For complaints, use the helpline printed on your SSGC bill.

Gas supply this winter

SSGC's management has told Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik that unaccounted-for gas losses have fallen by about 57% in volume and that domestic consumers are receiving gas three times a day, while K-Electric, industry and fertiliser plants face no gas load shedding.
