Gas timings for winter 2026 are now fixed at three cooking slots a day: 6:30am to 9am, 12pm to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm. Both gas companies have put households on the same schedule. Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced it for domestic consumers in Sindh and Balochistan, including Karachi, on Wednesday 4 November, saying it "comes into effect immediately", Dawn reported. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) introduced the same three slots for homes in Punjab, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the same day, ProPakistani reported.

Gas timings at a glance (from 4 November 2026)

SlotTime (PKT)Hours
Breakfast6:30am to 9:00am2.5
Lunch12:00pm to 2:30pm2.5
Dinner6:00pm to 9:00pm3
Total a day8 hours

Outside these slots, expect low pressure or no gas. SSGC said it was "prioritising domestic consumers by ensuring supply during meal times" and that the schedule follows federal government directives. It has posted the timings on its website and social media accounts.

Why Karachi had no gas on Tuesday

The schedule came a day after a severe gas crisis in Karachi on Tuesday 3 November. Several contradictory schedules credited to SSGC had circulated on social media since Monday, and the company gave no consolidated statement until late on Tuesday evening, Dawn said. SSGC consumers have not had round-the-clock gas for some years. If an old timetable is still being forwarded on WhatsApp in your family group, this is the one that replaces it.

CNG and industry: cuts first, and more coming

The household slots are the top of a queue. In the north, SNGPL has cut gas to CNG stations from 50 to 35 million cubic feet a day (mmcfd) and plans to suspend CNG supply in the coming days, ProPakistani reported. The cement industry has already moved to coal, and industries on the distribution network face cuts. Current allocations on SNGPL's network:

  • Industry on the transmission network (export and non-export): about 200 mmcfd
  • Power plants: about 140 mmcfd
  • Fertiliser plants: about 53 mmcfd

The reason given is lower LNG availability against rising winter demand. That matches the four-month plan the Petroleum Division sent to the Cabinet Committee on Energy in October, which put household cooking hours first and warned of CNG cuts in December and January (our earlier report).

What to do at home

  • Cook and heat water inside the slots. A geyser left on a pilot light outside the slot can go out and stay unlit; check it when gas returns.
  • Never leave a heater on while you sleep, and keep a window open a little when a gas heater is on. Low pressure followed by a sudden return of gas is when leaks and carbon monoxide build up.
  • Using an LPG cylinder or an electric heater to cover the gaps? Our gas bill calculator and electricity bill calculator show what each adds to the month.
  • Need an old bill for a complaint? Check your SSGC bill online or the SNGPL duplicate bill.
