Two Pakistani civilians killed by BSF fire in Kasur's Bedian sector: Pakistan summons Indian envoy
Two men from Ladhar village near Kasur were shot dead and a third injured by India's Border Security Force on Friday. The Foreign Office has lodged a strong protest and wants an inquiry.
Pakistan summoned India's Chargé d'Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Saturday 3 October 2026 after two Pakistani civilians were killed by India's Border Security Force (BSF) in the Bedian sector of the Kasur border on Friday, Radio Pakistan reported.
What happened at the Kasur border
The incident took place on Friday 2 October on the international border in the Bedian sector of Kasur district. According to Pakistan's account, three residents of Ladhar village were near the border when BSF personnel opened fire without warning. Two were killed and one was injured, The Express Tribune reported, citing reports that the men had gone a few steps past a border pillar.
The men's names have not been made public by the government.
What the Foreign Office said
The Foreign Office said the BSF "resorted to unprovoked lethal force against unarmed civilians" and called it "wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate". It rejected any attempt to describe the dead men as "infiltrators".
Pakistan asked India to:
- hold an immediate, transparent and credible investigation;
- take disciplinary and legal action against the personnel responsible;
- formally share the findings with Pakistan;
- respect human rights, international law and the bilateral border arrangements;
- exercise restraint and stop such incidents happening again.
India had not publicly responded to the protest by Saturday afternoon.
What it means for people living along the border
The Bedian and Kasur sectors are farmland on both sides, and villagers on the Pakistani side work fields close to the zero line. The Foreign Office has asked India to respect the bilateral border procedures that both forces are meant to follow when a civilian strays near the line.
If you farm or graze animals near the border in Kasur, Lahore or Sialkot districts, stay behind the border pillars and follow the instructions of the Punjab Rangers posts in your area. Report anyone missing near the border to the nearest Rangers post or police station at once, so a flag meeting can be requested quickly.
The incident comes at a time of high tension between the two countries: earlier this week the military spokesman presented a former SSG soldier India had said it killed in Kashmir (our report). We will update this story if India responds or the bodies are handed over.
