PP-203 Sahiwal by-election result: PML-N's Muhammad Asad Hanif Jutt has won Sunday's by-election in PP-203 (Chichawatni, Sahiwal district) with 42,114 votes, beating Muhammad Awais Mahmood of Tehreek-i-Ehsas Pakistan (TEP), who polled 24,512, according to the Form-47 provisional result reported by Dawn. The margin is 17,602 votes and turnout was 27.6 per cent. ARY News also reported Asad Hanif's 42,114 votes but gave the runner-up 25,512; the Form-47 figure is used here.

Counting was still going on late on Sunday in NA-77 Gujranwala, the National Assembly seat polled the same day, and no final result had been announced at the time of writing.

Why PP-203 had a third election in under three years

The seat has now been contested three times since the February 2024 general election:

8 November 2026 by-electionMuhammad Asad Hanif Jutt (PML-N)42,114Muhammad Awais Mahmood (TEP)24,51217,602

Rai Murtaza Iqbal was disqualified and de-notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after his conviction by an anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad, which led to the 2025 by-election. Hanif Jutt won it, then died of a cardiac arrest on 17 September 2026, Dawn reported, which brought his son Asad Hanif into Sunday's contest.

What the numbers show

  • The PML-N vote fell: Asad Hanif's 42,114 is 4,706 fewer than his father polled a year ago, about 10 per cent less.
  • The runner-up more than doubled: the second-placed candidate went from 10,975 votes in 2025 to 24,512 now, so the margin roughly halved, from 35,845 to 17,602.
  • Low turnout: 27.6 per cent, in a contest run across 185 polling stations (137 of them rated Category C, the least sensitive) with about 1,370 polling staff and 1,100 police.

Code of conduct notices

The district monitoring officer issued notices to PML-N MPAs Malik Qasim Nadeem and Motiya Begum for allegedly visiting polling stations in PP-203 on polling day, which the ECP code bars within 400 metres of a station. They have been asked to explain themselves at the Municipal Committee office at 5pm on Monday 9 November, according to Dawn.

NA-77 Gujranwala: what to watch

In NA-77, PML-N's Rashid Basheer Virk was one of 11 candidates for the seat left vacant when his father, five-time MNA Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk, died on 11 September. The ECP has summoned Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Virk and others to a hearing on 12 November over alleged campaign violations, and has said the constituency's result could be withheld until it decides. We will add the NA-77 result here when it is announced.

For earlier results, see the NA-168 Bahawalpur by-election result. Islamabad's own local government polls are on 20 December (nomination and polling dates).
