Rawalpindi viral video: car drags motorcycle with man on bonnet, FIR under Section 279

The viral Rawalpindi video of a car dragging a motorcycle with a man on its bonnet has led to a police case. New Town police registered an FIR on Monday 28 September 2026 over the incident, which happened at about 11:25pm on Friday 25 September in the New Town area, Dawn reported.

What the video shows

According to the FIR, a black car hit a white Honda Civic. The Civic's driver ended up on the black car's bonnet, and the black car kept going, then struck a motorcycle, which was caught under its front and dragged along the road with the man still on the bonnet.

The complaint was filed by Inspector Wahid Ikhlaq of New Town Traffic Police, who called the incident clear proof of negligence and carelessness and a clear violation of the law. As of Monday night, police had not identified either driver and had made no arrest.

The charges: Sections 279 and 427 PPC

The case is registered under two sections of the Pakistan Penal Code:

• Section 279, rash driving on a public way: driving so rashly or negligently that it endangers life or is likely to cause hurt. The punishment is up to two years in jail, a fine of up to Rs 3,000, or both.
• Section 427, mischief causing damage: for the damage to the vehicles.

If the man on the bonnet or the rider was hurt, police can add injury sections once medical reports are in. None had been added when the case was reported.

Traffic enforcement is tightening
