National Savings profit rates went up on 1 October 2026. The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) raised the rate on most of its schemes, reversing part of the 4 September cut. Behbood Savings Certificates, the Pensioners' Benefit Account and the Shuhada Family Welfare Account now pay 12.72% a year, or Rs 1,060 a month on every Rs 100,000, up from Rs 1,050.

The new figures are on the CDNS rate sheets marked "01-Oct-26, Till Date" at savings.gov.pk. The change was first reported by ProPakistani on 1 October.

The biggest rise is on Special Savings

Early reports said rates rose by up to 19 basis points, the Defence Savings Certificate move, but the largest move on the sheets is on Special Savings Certificates and Accounts: up 70 basis points, from 10.90% to 11.60%, and from 12.00% to 12.90% in the final half-year. On Rs 1 million, that is Rs 58,000 every six months instead of Rs 54,500.

One rate went the other way. The 3-month Short Term Savings Certificate dropped from 10.86% to 10.80%, so Rs 100,000 now earns Rs 2,700 over three months instead of Rs 2,715.

Not on the new sheets

As of the morning of 2 October, CDNS had not posted a new sheet for the Regular Income Certificate. Its current sheet still shows 11.16%, or Rs 930 a month per Rs 100,000, from 4 September "till date". The rates page also still lists the ordinary Savings Account at 10.00%. We will update this story if either changes.

What it means for you

  • A pensioner or widow with Rs 1 million in Behbood gets Rs 10,600 a month instead of Rs 10,500, or Rs 1,200 more a year.
  • The new rates run from 1 October. How a change applies to certificates you already hold differs by scheme, so ask your National Savings Centre before you cash in and reinvest. Breaking a certificate early can cost more than the rise is worth.
  • Shariah-compliant savers now get up to 11.70% on the 5-year Sarwa Islamic Term Account, up from 11.16%.
