Most private schools in Punjab plan to start their new academic session on 1 December, with final-term exams moved from December to November, so that they can cover more of the syllabus before Ramadan, ProPakistani reported, citing school sources.

Why schools are moving early

School hours are cut during Ramadan, which leaves less teaching time and makes it hard to finish the course. Ramadan 1448 is expected in February 2027, subject to the moon sighting. Starting the year in December gives teachers about two extra months of full-length days before it begins.

No school association or the Punjab School Education Department has announced the change formally; the report is based on what school owners and sources said. Schools that follow the government calendar are not covered.

What it means for parents

  • Exams come sooner. If your child's school follows the plan, finals are in November, roughly a month earlier than usual, so revision starts now.
  • New books. Schools are switching to revised syllabuses. Publishers expect the new books in March or April, so some classes may start the new session on existing textbooks. Ask the school before you buy a full set.
  • Fees. An earlier session can also move admission, annual and first-month fee dates forward. Check the school's notice for when the first new-session challan is due, and whether December's fee belongs to the old year or the new one.
  • Holidays. Ask how winter holidays fit around a 1 December start.

Ask your school

Schools have not all confirmed, and dates may differ between chains. Ask for the written calendar: the last exam date, the result day and the first day of the new class. If you are planning the year's school costs, our salary breakdown calculator helps set a monthly budget, and our age calculator checks whether a younger child meets a school's admission cut-off date.
