Brendan Allen beat Christian Leroy Duncan by rear-naked choke in the fifth round of the UFC Vegas 122 main event at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, which ended at about 7:45am PKT on Sunday 11 October, according to Tapology's results. The win ends Duncan's five-fight winning streak and keeps Allen, ranked No. 4 at middleweight by the UFC going in, in the title conversation.

Allen came in as a narrow favourite, and before the fight he warned Duncan that he had better "hope he catches me early", promising to take him into rounds he had not been in before. That is what happened: Duncan, whose wins over Jared Cannonier and Roman Dolidze had carried him into the top 10, was taken into the championship rounds and submitted in the last of them. Allen had been frustrated about being passed over for bigger fights; a finish of a rising contender on a main event is his strongest argument yet.

The rest of the card

  • Co-main event: Jai Herbert beat Matheus Camilo by unanimous decision, an upset, since Camilo was a clear favourite.
  • Loopy Godinez beat Ketlen Souza (who missed weight) by unanimous decision.
  • Andre Fili knocked out Kai Kamaka III with a head kick 22 seconds into round 2.
  • Otari Tanzilovi stopped Malcolm Wellmaker with a head kick and punches in round 2.
  • On the prelims, Julius Walker, Francisco Prado, Niko Price, Brendson Ribeiro, Allen Frye Jr. and Alice Pereira all won inside the distance, and Ernesta Kareckaite vs Melissa Gatto was a majority draw.
